Guest guest
Anita, Dr. Bihari recommends beginning at 3 mg if you have or are presently experiencing spasticity (stiffness, spasms). It may be true that most women do better on 4.5 mg, but I've been on 3 mg for almost three years, and Dr. Bihari sees no reason for me to change that. I think it's terrific that you're starting. How you been to the LDN website? (www.ldninfo.org)

Guest guest
Maybe I'm wrong Cyndi (first time for everything .... joke!) but I have been given the impression from things I've read that people who start on only 1.5mg are the ones who sometimes then have problems getting to even 3.0mg, let alone 4.5mg. Am happy to be proven wrong of course but would be interested to hear comments from people who started at 1.5mg. Guest guest
Yeah, I always recommend Starting at 3, stay there for a while, and then when you are happy with your results, try 4.5. Or you can try 4.5 to start, if you wish, and drop down to 3 if you don't like how it feels. 1.5 was unheard of. All the info said less than 1.75 was useless. Reg from Canada and I were talking about 'how to try 4.5' when you take 3.0; so it was mentioned to ask the doc for a 4.5 script, filled in 1.5 caps, 3 times a day. Then you can take 2 every day normally, and when ready to try 4.5, take 3 of them. That was the ONLY reason to have 1.5s. Then people started to get creative, and have more problems. But that's JMHO, YMMV, do it how ya like it. Re: [low dose naltrexone] Start at 3.0 and move up to 4.5 ?? Guest guest
> > we recommend people start with 1.5 and stay on it for a month then > go to 3 for a month then 4.5 > cyndi ============== What does Jill recommend for Crohn's, starting at 1.5mg and gradually working up or starting at full LDN dose? I know that on my forum that the more quickly crohn's patients go to 4.5mg the crohn's gets much better. And for the autistic kids Dr. McCandless recommends ramping to full dose(for the size of child) as quickly as possible. And cancer patients should all be started at 4.5mg unless they are less than 100 pounds, Bihari likes that maximum dose for cancer patients. Are there other diseases that warrant ramping up to the maximum dose of 4.5mg as quickly as possible? Maybe ALS(Lou Gehrig's)? Anyone know on ALS if one should start small or at 4.5mg? ALS is such a fast killer that I would think 4.5mg immediately would be recommended. Cyndi, do you know on ALS? On my board I've always recommended an ALS patient start at 4.5mg, can they start lower than 4.5mg and still be safe?

Many who start at 1.5mg can then only make it to possibly 2.0mg and not go further and they stay at 1.5mg or 2.0mg not realizing they are not protocted from progression at such low doses. I've noticed more whining and agony from those who start at the lower dose of 1.5mg. Each time they have to ramp up they have to go through the negative side effcts all over again with each ramp up. Of course this doesn't happen with all who start at 1.5mg but it does with many. When I started LDN starting at 1.5mg was not even heard of, it was 3.0mg or 4.5mg for those with MS. Guest guest
Hi Anita, It seemed a long while back that women were doing better on the higher dosage, but then a poll was taken and it was determined that everyone reacts a bit differently and there was no correlation to gender, age or weight. The best recommendation now is to start off at 1.5mg, build your way up to 3mg and see how you are doing. If you feel you are doing fine then try 4.5. You are the best judge of what dosage is working best for you. My best Aletha [low dose naltrexone] Start at 3.0 and move up to 4.5 ?? Guest guest
Anita, I just want to add to Aletha's message that you should get up to 3 mg as soon as possible, because it's only at that dosage that LDN prevents disease progression (per Dr. Bihari). Guest guest
Yep, I've told people with ALS I've got started on LDN to start at 3.0 mg and try to get to 4.5 mg ASAP. None of them has had any great problems getting to 4.5mg. Bren wrote: >Are there other diseases that warrant ramping up to the maximum dose >of 4.5mg as quickly as possible? Maybe ALS(Lou Gehrig's)? I got the idea reading all of these posts that one should start at 1.5mg for 30 days, then move up to 3.0mg. After reading the paper, I doubled up my 1.5 mg capsules and had the 3.0mg script filled. The jury is still out. Real

Guest guest
Vivicienna, according to Dr. Bihari and Dr. Lawrence, 3 mg is also an appropriate dosage to prevent MS disease progression. Some people do better on 4.5, some on 3. It seems that people experiencing spasticity often do better on 3. I believe the LDN website mentions this.
