Welcome Tina.

Peanuts are a legume not a nut. i have found pecans to be much better tolerated

than

almonds. Just my experience. pancakes and muffins using pecans are delicious.

hence the

name " Pecanbread " was chosen for this group because many children tolerated it

better

than almonds.

Hi,

We use hazelnut, macadamia, cashew and pecan flours. They work well for us.

Usually a combination works best. Good luck.

Cashews generally aren't recommended at the beginning of the diet.

They are more complex and are harder to digest. Since your child

still has constipation you'd probably want to start with the easiser

to digest nuts (because if she can't digest them it can let to bowel

trouble in the form of diarrhea, gas or constipation etc.). Blanched

almonds and pecans are the least complex of the nuts and are easiest

to digest for most.

There are two great links on constipation at

http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/

Go to the " Knowledge Base " and then to

1. " Constipation " and

2. " Constipation continued "

if you have any trouble getting to these links let me know.

Although ground up finer cashew butter is still harder to digest at

the beginning of the diet. Until your daughter has seen some

improvement in symptoms you probably should avoid it. Pecan butter is

a great substitue. If you can't find it commercially it is pretty

easy to make in a food processor or blender. YOu may need to add a

little oil (I add some sunflower oil) but often the natural oil in the

pecans is sufficient. Commercial almond butter may be a bit of a

problem since most have the tough brown skins in them (more difficult

to digest). You can make your own from blanched almonds or if lucky

enough to find commercial Blonde (blanched) almond butter.
