It indicates a flare and anemia, and in our case went away, first with prednisone, this time the diet. What is you son on SCD for, and has he had any scoping or blood or stool work to determine if there is an actual digestive issue? Guest guest
Hi nicoisse, >Hello, my son has been on SCD for almost ten days. He's currently taking Prednisone, Imuran and Cortenema. This is our second attempt to wean him off Prednisone. He developed a cold couple of days ago and now has blood in his stools. He has about one to three stools per day. Has anyone experienced this problem? I don't know what to do. I was thinking of starting the Intro diet again this weekend. I'm afraid that his GI specialist may want to up his Prednisone again. What is his weaning schedule like? Many people have had their symptoms flare up when trying to wean off prednisone and so had to do a slower wean schedule. This happened to me. Here is a sample of a slow prednisone wean that was sent in a few years ago: To those trying a slow prednisone wean, " Since Ben is 9, he sees a pediatric GI who follows an extremely conservative prednisone weaning schedule that maybe some of you " older " folks would be interested in. I think this schedule is typical for kids but I don't know about adults. Of course, check with your doctor first. It starts when you get down to 20 mg. two weeks - alternate 20mg/15mg every other day two weeks - alternate 20 mg/10mg every other day two weeks - alternate 20 mg/5mg every other day two weeks - alternate 20 mg/0 mg every other day two weeks - 15 mg every other day two weeks - 10 mg every other day two weeks - 5 mg every other day two weeks - 2.5 mg every other day " Sheila, SCD 61 mos, UC 22yrs mom of and

UC has a fairly good healing rate with SCD, but not as high as Crohns. It's still very much worth a shot. Take care, Fay; 13 y.o. son with Crohns, still on Pentasa and azathioprine
Guest guest
My Daugher age 4 has Crohns. She's been on a higher protein SCD diet since she hasn't been able to tolerate much sugar at all. Even too much glucose has caused her looser stools early on after her Prednisolone wean. We've also found her to be intolerant of Dairy Milk and cheese, I've found the bacon I was giving her had illegals in it as well. I was giving her store bought aaplesauce that could have also set her off and not let her heal sooner. When I wanted to firm up her looser more frequent stools and stop these symptoms I would give her the basic diet of Chicken soup, Chicken thighs, steak tenderloin, hamburger, eggs, and a little bit of grape juice with water and those symptoms would go away after a few days sometimes in just the next stool. Ella had UC type symptoms since she was bleeding from her colon. SHe was put in the Crohns Camp after her biopsies. Its taken us 4 months of a heavy protein lower carb SCDiet to seem to have her system settled down and maybe more importantly for us to apply it properly. She's on no maintenance drugs and takes the SCD multi-vitamin. I know one other crohns patient age 11 that was also very glucose interollent for some time. One time I let her have too much Cows milk yogurt and she did start bleeding for a few stools. I quickly went back to the above higher protein regimen and it slowly improved by day 4 we were back to formed stools again on her own without prednisone. It was a weekend and our GI was gone or I may not have done this. Now Ella is tolerating Goats yogurt 1/2tsp twice a day. Pearsauce, Peanut Butter, Butternut Squash. More Juice/Water mixtures and more glucose overall. We are seeing a very nice stretch in her diet and ability to digest more calories. She eats like a horse and is gaining weight.
