Guest guest
Hi Gayle, Very sorry to hear the LDN doesn't seem to be helping at the moment and not having MS myself can't answer your question on steroids. However, seems to me that potentially your problem could be with the compounding given that you say they are only using the tablets and not the powder. To me that indicates somebody who probably doesn't do a lot of LDN and may not be getting it right (see http://www.low dose naltrexone.org/comp_pharm.htm ). Have you tried using The Green Dispensary? (see ://www.greendispensary.com/ <http://www.greendispensary.com/>) Even though they are in Adelaide and I'm in Melbourne I have used them for about 2 years now for my LDN. My initial lots from a place over here in Melbourne cost me about $170 for each 100 capsules (4.5mg). The Green Dispensary charge $90 for the same thing and use naltrexone powder, far better than crushing the tablets as that place and yours do. It then costs $5 for acidophilus and $5 postage making it a round $100. They typically arrive within 3 days or so of me ordering them and it used to cost me a lot more than $5 in petrol to get to the other place to pick them up! They also offer a variety of fillers. Guest guest
, thanks for your reply. SOme of this I knew (the powder) and had forgotten. As it turns out , I'm not going to be going to the hospital until Monday. I have a feeling the neurologist is less co-operative these days - it's been nagging at me for a while that his attitude is different since I started taking my treatment into my own hands. Never mind -there are plenty of other neurologists in the area. I have a follow up appointment with a Nutritional and Environmental specialist doctor in a week. He seems open minded. I think I'll take the LDN issue to him. I looked at the Green Dispensary website; it looks like this might be the sort of dispensary this doctor would use on a regular basis. Between that dispensary and this new doctor I might be sure of geting it right. For now, it's just going to be a case of getting through each day and hoping things don't get any worse. Nice hearing from you, . Guest guest
Gayle you have two choices here 1. you can use one of approved pharmacies and have your ldn mailed to you using pure naltrexone powder and the correct filler. 2. you can have this pharmacy call one of the approved pharmacies and get correct directions. and ask him if he is willing to make it this way. cyndi On Aug 11, 2006, at 12:22 AM, Gayle wrote: > Hi - this an old one I know but I need some help from someone who > has the answere readily to hand > > I've been on LDN 3mg 3 months or so, possible improvement to bladder > function; otherwise all downhill. Guest guest
Artie, against my previous resolution in my case. But I'm hoping the problem is in the compounding of my LDN. Steroids do really nasty things to me. Things have to be bad for me to consider this treatment. Guess I'll stay on the LDN while getting a new prescription sorted. Guest guest
Gayle, One month ago I had a solumedrol IV. Thought it was an exacerbation, but it was a bad bladder infection. All the steroid did was keep me awake for days. That created stress, and made me EXTREMELY weak. So weak that all my neuro wanted to discuss was Assisted Living arrangements. I won't be seeing him again. He didn't prescribe my LDN, and won't discuss it. My Internal MD prescribes my LDN. I get it from Skip with Avicel filler, 4.5mg. Guest guest
Hi Cyndi, Dollars. The Australian dollar is currently worth about 75c American, so the A$90 I pay for my 100 4.5 mg capsules is equivalent to approx US$67. I'm not sure whether anyone from The Green Dispensary has spoken to anybody in America, though I tend to doubt it. However, lots of people they provide LDN to over here are doing very well so they must be doing it right. From what I've seen they generally seem to be regarded as the LDN experts in Australia. I don't want to try to get someone from there to ring or email Skip, but if he is interested in finding out how they go about it and has time maybe he could email there (email address = info at greendispensary.com - I've deliberately used ' at ' instead of @ so his address doesn't get picked up by spammers' software). Guest guest
Hey Gayle!! I am sorry to hear that you are going through some tribulation that is hard to see beyond. I myself suffered an attack a little over a month ago, and opted for the solumedrol. The attack occured on my upper lumbar spine (or so we suspect) and I lost massive amounts of motor control in my right leg and right arm (could not write or type, walking was clumsy), plus I was having the craziest nerve sensitivity (hot felt cold along mixed with numbness and hyper-sensitivity). I am a drummer and needed to be able to at least get through a show at the end of that week. Plus I am a right handed drummer, so this did not bode well. I did two days of the solumedrol, which greatly decreased the nerve issuses. Plus I did a lot of meditative focus on the afflicted parts, welcoming the strange sensations instead of fearing them. I also completely refrained from any kind of nerve stimulants like caffeine, and moderated my diet very closely. This along with the continued LDN helped me recover enough for the show, and I got through fine. I am just now back at 100%, though I lost some of my muscle memory. It was my fast twitch muscles that seemed the most effected. All that can be re-taught though. It was scary because I am about to go on tour, and I cannot afford such set backs!! The question of mixing the two has never been sufficiently answered for me, but when I posed the query a while ago, I got a response here from someone who had addressed the issue with the moderators of the LDN site. They said that even though they expected them to cancel out, Dr. Bihari noted a positive alliance between them. We of course all respond differently to every medication, so that is not a definite. I have not noted a negative effect between the two. Maybe you could up your dose to 3.5 or something. I went ahead and got a heightened prescription for any future trouble. Just to let you know, I blame myself for my recent attack. I had for so long been so good with my diet and exercise, but let it lapse pretty bad the month prior to my attack. Plus I got too much sun on vacation, got eaten up by fire ants at the end of it, and my grandmother died all within the same week. Thats a lot of nerve stimulus!! I think my nerves just revolted on me. Anyway, I hope some of that helps, best of luck to you, and just know that there is always the potential for healing!! Sounds to me like you need a reputable LDN compounding pharmacy. Also, while on these steroids you will develop candida yeast overgrowth. Do you have the link to my LDN forum? If not let me know and I'll send it to you. On the main discussion board is the candida sticky thread. Skip the candida test since you know you will be battling candida while on steroids and go straight to the diet and supplements.
Guest guest
I totally agree Cyndi, I was feeling so good that I got cocky and let go the good habits I had established. It's amazing how quickly they can be undone! > >> > >> Hi - this an old one I know but I need some help from someone who > >> has the answere readily to hand > >> > >> I've been on LDN 3mg 3 months or so, possible improvement to > > bladder > >> function; otherwise all downhill. Guest guest
Gayle, My email server is down at the moment and I'm going on holiday tomorrow, so this is the only way I've got of contacting you before I go. If you're having a problem with your LDN, then maybe I can help you. The DVD I sent you arrived in only five days. If that is the normal time for packages to get to you, then there is probably no reason why I can't post LDN to you. Unless there's a problem with customs. I don't understand all this compounding stuff, too technical for a simple Scotsman like me to understand. I get my LDN delivered every month as a liquid. It has a shelf life of 28 days or 56 if refrigerated. The chemist who supplies it also now offers capsules, but because they cost a little more, he only expects to supply them to people going on holiday. If the post is going to arrive with you regularly within 5-7 days, then I see no reason why I can't post it to you. Liquid or capsule. I'd have to get a prescription for you, but I'm sure I could manage that. I sent you another disk on Monday, you should get that any day now, and I sent another one today, so we can see how long it takes for those to arrive. I'll be back on Friday, and I assume my email will be working again by then, so you can let me know. If I can do this thing for you, will you promise to take Rolf back to Oz. Lots and lots of Blessings, Danny. > > Cyndi, I just took the prescription to the compounding pharmacy with > instructions for dosage. Guest guest
Hi Jon, , everyone - I've had some good answers. About the Candida - I'm on the BBD and also treating Candida at present. The hospital food will be a break in the diet - pity, but can't be helped. My diet is too restricted to hope their kitchen can accommodate it. I joined your forum , and I have the supplement s pretty much sorted out. Managing my MS has been a disappointing process so far...Jon, yes: meditation, Kinesiology, other therapies and lots of exercise are all in there. Stress has a lot to answer for in my MS too. I will go ahead with the IV steroids and keep on the LDN. Meanwhile I'll get all the LDN questions sorted, i.e. make sure it's being compounded right. I have only a small hope that the steroids will help, but I'll do it anyway because I don't know what else to try and this attack is getting in the way of things I badly want to pursue! Jon, sad how MS seems to get you where you need it least - you say you lost some of your muscle memory? Do you mean you had to re-learn how to get your body do some things? Not the drumming, surely! About "welcoming the strange sensations instead of fearing them" can you explain a bit more about that? Maybe reply to my email address so as not to clutter up this board? gayle@... Thanks everyone - Gayle Re: []Also, while on these steroids you will develop candida yeast overgrowth. Do you have the link to my LDN forum? and [ Kloetus]: I myself suffered an attack a little over a month ago, and opted for the solumedrol. Guest guest
Gayle, Can I ask you a very personal question ? How much do you pay for your LDN ? I never see anyone here talking about the cost. I pay £15.00/ month. That would be about $37 AU or $27 US We usually seem to pay double what the rest of the world pays for anything, so you probably get a much better deal than I do. Maybe your health service pays for yours ? I hope your IV treatment goes ok. I had it once, so that must make me a bit of an expert. It certainly got me back on my feet quickly, and out of hospital, but no long term benefit. It was a long time ago though, and maybe the steroids are better now. I hope you're taking note of all the Candida advice. You can pass it on to me when I get back. I've made a pretty poor attempt at controlling it myself, there's always something comes up. Eg. holidays. Bit like trying to stop smoking, but I managed that, so I want to have a real go again. I'm still here, waiting for a plane to take me away. Last time I tried to go on holiday, it was technical problems, this time it's Blair's megalomania. All the airports here are still in a mess. Do you have a " special friend " , to lead you into special adventures ? Your Colonial Master, Danny > > Hi Danny - Nice to hear from you again. > About the LDN - thank you. Guest guest
Hi Danny - My LDN costs me Aus$70.00 for 50 capsules. More than yours, and no; no subsidy. But mine includes the cost of compounding. I'm still keen to do this another way. The Candida treatment easier than I expected but I haven't repeated that spit test yet. I hope that flight doesn't undo all the good work the LDN has done for you. "Colonial Master!" Cheek! Guest guest
Danny - I'll amend that - the LDN costs $65, not $70, for 50x3mg capsules. Any other Aussies have comments on price?
