Guest guest
Hi- We're new to the list- and to the diet. I could really use some input. I've got a almost 5 yr old boy- diagnosed with regressive autism at age 2. He's been GFCF and soy free for the past 2.5 years......with pretty impressive initial improvements......then we started seeing regressions across the board........We've been doing DAN (supplements/chelations.....for 2 years also.) has had long long term chronic yeast problems......since infancy.( 5 ear infections before 18 months old.....always followed with antibiotics......always followed with thrush.....try nystantin....wouldn't work....then we'd give liquid diflucan. Of course with DAN.....we've done many stool tests......all coming up with yeast sky high. has had between 3-6 loose nasty stools a day as far back as I can remember. He's very self limited too with his diet. He has some major visual and /SI problems with food..... 's diet up till 4 days ago: Lots of raw fruit......banana,grapes,apples,pears....oranges.....mango....no berries Nutbutter /preserve sandwiches on rice breads ANDI bars(rice protein) pancakes/french toast fries chips cereal rice cakes etc. You get the idea. All feeding the problem. Since we started the diet 4 days ago.... Day 1: he got a hold of some grape nuts cereal- he was so desperate for carbs I think.....he scaled the kitchen counters to reach my cereal that he never looked at before. And he got a hold of a raw apple and had a few bites......Other than that.- no food.....only water and dilluted welches grape juice. He had a nasty greenish bowel movement on day one.very angry asking for food all day. DAy 2: He ate eggs! Just over 2 eggs.....I was floored.....joey doesn't normally even look at eggs.! No poops. Very aggressive with me ......did get a hold of a raw pear......again a few bites.....drinking the same as above. Day 3 No poops. Refusing all food. Drinking same as above. very lethargic....stayed mostly on the sofa(very unlike him.....he's usually a tornado.)slight temperature Day 4 - today. Threw up some water when I presented eggs to him in the morning. slight temperature-ate a tiny bit of applesauce...(willingly)....refused all other foods.....presented eggs and carrots. very lethargic.....sleepy......whiney.....drinking same as above.no poops. Did try 250 mg activated charcoal cap today......not sure if it helped or not. My child is pretty much non verbal. Functionally non verbal is a better description actually. Obviously- it would seem he's going through detox- but without bowel movements....or vomiting.....where are all these dead/dying microbes/yeast going? Also- how can I get my child to eat? He's so picky ...not " typical " picky but autism picky. Any parents of autistic children out there that could help??I'd appreciate any and all input from anyone......but children with autism have some special issues with food so if there are mom's out there ....would love to hear from you asap. I hate to see my child not eating for 4 days now...... Thanks in advance- Beth Acree joey scd day 4 Acree 6416 Sunset Ct. Guest guest
, Sorry, I hit send by mistake. 1-Make sure he stays hydrated!!!! 2-Give him epsom salts baths. 3-Try to get EFA (oils), enzymes, probiotics, vitamin C, and magnesium down him. Will he eat the SCD jello?... You can hide some crushed/ powdered supplements in there. Don't give up... you're about to get a breakthrough!!! There are others on this list to support you. I am praying for you. Agape, (home) (cell) JOSEPH ACREE acree603@...> wrote: Hi- We're new to the list- and to the diet. I could really use some input. Guest guest
We've been on the diet for 14 days now and seen very similar things happening with Cody who is nonverbal, 3yo, developmentally delayed, and SID (swallowing issues, foods primarily). First, it gets better when you find something he likes. Cody loves bananna pancakes and chicken tots. I make them ahead and keep batches in the fridge to feed him periodically when he's hungry. He also loves bananna smoothies (yoghurt, bananna, sweet & low, honey). He scarfs those down like they're milk. He's now eating raw very ripe bananna pieces without any problems. > He ate eggs! Just over 2 eggs.....I was floored.....joey doesn't normally even look at eggs.! Cody surprized me by loving the bananna pancakes and chicken pancakes too (egg & chicken blended together) as before he would not eat eggs to save his life. > No poops. Very aggressive with me ......did get a hold of a raw pear......again a few bites.....drinking the same as above. I think Cody wasn't hungry around that day as well - he wouldn't eat and had very little to no poop that day - then watch out - when he finally went it was light brown! > Day 3 > No poops. Refusing all food. Drinking same as above. very lethargic....stayed mostly on the sofa(very unlike him.....he's usually a tornado.)slight temperature Yes, Cody was exactly like this - he was quiet and hardly cared about Bob the Builder. The next day he was right back to my Cody. I too gave him act. charcoal - it's great for those " bad " days. > Day 4 - today. > Threw up some water when I presented eggs to him in the morning. > slight temperature-ate a tiny bit of applesauce... My child is pretty much non verbal. Functionally non verbal is a better description actually. Yes - there were two days of spitting up liquids that never went into him - gagging sounds and finally he started eating and drinking again just fine. > Obviously- it would seem he's going through detox- but without bowel movements....or vomiting.....where are all these dead/dying microbes/yeast going? They are probably buidling up into a big poop that will rear it's head later today! that's what happened with Cody - massive poop explosion of larger pancake looking tanish colored poop. > Also- how can I get my child to eat? I hate to see my child not eating for 4 days now...... For Cody I force the first bite and wait to see if he'll sign " more " or at least open his mouth for a second bite. That way I know he at least has something in his mouth/stomach. Also, I make it super sweet with SweetnLow and/or honey b/c he won't eat it without it tasting great. I taste it first to see how it is, if I wouldn't eat it - he wouldn't either. Cody hated the broth and chicken soup, but he loves ground up chicken and green beans. I hope these things helped you!
