Guest guest
Hi Donna - Thanks for the reply. I hadn't been reading the posts for a few days as I was out of town. I posted before I had read the old posts. So, I got that info, afterward. As far as using SoluMedrol goes, after 2 years of steady decline and regular trips to the hospital to get IV SoluMedrol (3 days each time), my neuro proposed I get the SoluMedrol powder (the same vial used to mix the IV), mix it in my favorite smoothie and drink it down ("...you won't even taste it!"). I made myself a nice big smoothie, my favorite flavor, so I could "hide" the SoluMedrol powder in it. Yeghck!!!! It was the most vial tasting stuff on the planet, I'm convinced. Somehow, I had to get the whole thing down! Seeing my valiant efforts, my ever-loving, practical, husband (an engineer by trade and personality) who loves - and lives - to solve problems, suggested we pack the powder into empty capsules and take it that way! Voila! Problem solved! No bitter, awful taste. Six (size-00) capsules and a glass of water later, and they're down! Gotta love those engineers! How I got to taking the SoluMedrol orally in the first place was because my neuro suggested that instead of having to come in every 3-4 months for the IV SoluMedrol because of having new or continued disease activity, we could hopefully slow progression down and calm the MS by doing a once-a-month pulse of SoluMedrol. It did help keep me from having the exacerbations. Also, if I felt myself going downhill into an episode, I took one dose of SoluMedrol and I would be back up and going again. Sometimes it would take two doses on consecutive days to pull me out of one. However, using the SoluMedrol orally successfully kept me from progressing for two years. Now, LDN has kept me from progressing for another year (as of September). The latest MRI shows no progression for the past 3 years! I haven't taken SoluMedrol since March of this year...and that last time was because I felt myself going into an episode. I keep it on hand just in case...but haven't needed it in the past 5 months...and counting!

Thanks. > ======== Dr. Bihari really hates for one to use steroids but in case one is under extreme stress, illness, etc and is experiencing a severe exacerbation, is the only time Bihari says it's okay to use steroids and even in these situations Bihari recommends continuing to take LDN while on steroids. Below is from Dr. Lawrence who has MS himself and uses LDN to treat his MS. Because LDN stimulates the immune system and many of the drugs routinely used by the NHS in the treatment of MS further suppress the immune system, LDN cannot be used in company with steroids, beta interferon, methotrexate, azathioprine or mitozantrone or any other immune suppressant drug. If there is any doubt, please submit a full list of the drugs you are presently taking so that their compatibility may be assessed. In addition, because LDN will also block the analgesic effects of any opiate drugs (includes codeine, dihydrocodeine, morphine, pethidine or diamorphine) presently being taken, the use of LDN will initially greatly increase the level of pain experienced. It is therefore advisable that any opiate-like drugs be discontinued at least two weeks before this treatment is initiated. When starting the treatment it is essential that any untoward or adverse side-effects are reported immediately so that the treatment process can be further assessed and, if necessary, modified. Guest guest
Hi Connie - ....Where did you get the capsules?... We purchased the vegetarian-based empty capsules from our local health food store. We've also purchase them online before. They aren't very expensive. ....I was wondering why you could not just take 50 -20 mg pills... I don't know why you couldn't take it that way, although 50 pills sounds like a lot to get down versus the 6 capsules. However, your doctor might be able to prescribe higher dose tablets so you could reduce the total number you need to swallow.
Guest guest
Hi Gayle, "I'm still sitting at home waiting for the hospital to fit me in..." In response to the above, when the hospital was backlogged, my neurologist used to offer to do the IV in her office. They put me in a back room and started the IV. I left after 30 minutes... 15 minutes after they finished the IV. I wonder if you could convince your doctor to do the IV in his or her office. It might be worth a try...
