Torsten,

Congrats!!! How exciting for you all!!! I love Fiona's take on it!!!

Well I am the youngest of 7, and my oldest sister was 14 years older than me,

but I had plenty of siblings between us and her, so cannnot speak on that

issue. As to having a child after 40..my mom was 43 when she had me!!! I

would say it was a piece of cake for her and it kept her busy with " baby

Joanne " while the rest were at school. My parents also loved having " kid "

around when all their friends had no more " little kids " and my parents still

got all that fun stuff to do with a little kid.

My sister had her last baby at 36 and she loved it. She loved not doing

housework and entertaining with the baby and doing games and coloring

instead. I keep asking her when is she going to start the house cleaning, as

that baby is now about 13.

Enjoy

Joanne

Torsten, that is fantastic news! Congratulations!!!! I am so very happy

for your family. What a wonderful joy to be not only expecting another child,

but a healthy one at that. My firstborn was a May baby, and it was a super time

to deliver (not too hot yet). I love Fiona's comments. Hadley asked us to take

the baby back to the hospital one time, but now seems to enjoy having a little

sister. You will have an advantage with Fiona being older because she will

really be able to help and feel like a part of everything. Please give my best

to Silke.

I am a little curious about CVS as well. How did the procedure go? Was it

painful? I'd be interested in any detail Silke might want to share.

Best wishes,

Keeley

mom to Leila, 4m. wcf, and Hadley, 2.5 yrs. nocf

Hi Torsten,

Well CONGRATULATIONS!!!!. I know the relief you are feeling about the baby

not even being a carrier. We went through CVS testing when pregnant with my

almost 4 year old now. It was a tough wait but knowing that the baby was

only a carrier for the rest of my pregnancy was wonderful.

My children are 6 days short of 5 years apart. It is great. My older one

wcf really understands the needs and wants of his little brother. Even when

he gets upset with him, he is easily talked to and gets over it without too

much trouble. I have gotten " Sam gets more attention than me " but it is

easily resovled with, you had me to yourself for five years, he will never

have that. The only downside that I see is that they are at such differnt

levels. It gets trying when trying to do stuff as a family that both of the

can do (and be interested in). But we try to do things they each like and we

take turns.

Overall I think it is much easier this way and Silke will be able to have

time with the new baby when Fiona is in school. That was a big help to me.

I didn't have easy babies and being able to have Josh in school gave me a

little respit.

They are most of the time the best of friends, but like all brothers they

have there moments. It is so precious to see how the olderone nutures the

little guy and how the little won idolizes his big brother. (Always wants to

be " the Josh " when we play house.

So best of luck, this is such an exciting time.

Mom to Josh 8 1/2 wcf and 3 1/2 nocf but wants to do therapy

for

his brother.

Torsten -

Congratulations on your great news.

I have nothing BUT encouragement for having a baby after 40. I had my son

Charlie, my first, at 41.

Anyway - here are some encouraging reasons (I hope) why it's great to have a

kid in your 40s.

1: You're smarter

2: You're probably more financially secure

3: You get less stretch marks! (This is really true, although sadly it's

because one's skin is a bit more baggy and less elastic anyway. But hey... )

4: Women are still close to their physical peak of the late 30's,

particularly in endurance, so labor is definitely no worse, if not better.

5: You meet other cool wierd old parents

6: It's a fantastic antidote to the dreary and difficult problems of aging,

like sick and aging parents, menopause, knee replacements, assisted living,

and fiber. Us oldie parents get to think about the wonderful life stuff that

comes with having a young kid - it's just great! Kindergarten, playgroups,

swings, kid's parties, pizza, knock-knock jokes, which the Tank

engine add-on to choose...

7: They love you no matter how old and wrinkly you are.

All the very best wishes,

Maz

We are all so excited for you! My older daughter was 14 when my son was born;

how's that for an age difference? I was 38 when Mycah was born but my husband

was 55!! And so far, we are all doing great. My husband says it will be easy

for you to have this baby while you are still so young!

Lori in Florida--guess you won't be making a trip here anytime soon?

We are pregnant!

Hi,

as you will have guessed already from my increased interest in CVS, Silke is

pregnant! We are expecting a boy (not even a carrier!) in May. Or, as Fiona

sees it, " a little brother is better than nothing " :-)))

Any words of wisdom from parents of siblings, who are six years apart are

much appreciated! We are also looking forward to encouraging comments from

parents, who got a child after 40.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I am really excited for you and Silke. I have a

big gap in my children also. Toni is 12 years older than her brother

. I think that the older you are, the more you enjoy

children.
