Just a suggestion. I am not a computer whiz but is it possible for Karyn or

someone to write up a formal letter, perhaps on the PIA letter head?? Then we

can all print it out, sign the letter and forward it to BCBS ? Would we forward

it to the main headquarters ( is there such a place? ) or to our local insurance

carrier thru our employer or whomever ? It is just a suggestion. Karyn is good

at writing things and her written skills are very elegant and factual. It is

just a suggestion if someone with those talents can do this. Then we can figure

out a way to print it out from our own computer and mail it out separately.

Let's bombard those insurance idiots with letters . ( Sorry , that was not nice

).

It is a thought. Any suggestions from anyone ? How can we organize such an

effort ?

insurance being dropped

dear all,

this just a note to let everyone know that BCBS is being dropped by the

University of Minnesota... Dr. Sutherland will no longer be able to accept this

insurance until futher notice from the hospital... They are note paying or

reimbursing the hospital at the propper rate for the transplant prtion of the

surgery which is currently 11,880.00... Dr. sutherland would anyone who has Blue

Cross Blue sheild of any state to contact them and push them to cover this and

to explain how inportant it is that they cover things that we need as

patients... Again he wanted me to enforsize that it is not him that has made

this decision and he will do what he can to help...His hand has been forced by

both the insurance and the Hospital... Hopefully they can get this resoveled

with a little help from us that have BCBS...

Thanks

As an attorney who has represented insurance companies in the past it

is frustrating to observe the battles between profitable (for the

most part) insurance companies and profitable (for the most part)

physicians. It seems that in today's health care system the only one

who gets hurt when insurance compnies and doctors fight are the

patients.

It used to be that if you had insurance you could get treatment.

Now, even with insurance it is not always possible to get decent

health care. In the United States!

At some point we as a society will have to make tough choices in

order to ensure that we provide adequate medical care to those who

need it. People need to come before profits.

It is my prayer that BCBS and Dr. Sutherland will be able to find

some middle ground that meets the needs of those who have decided

they need his expertise.

Though I live in Maine my BCBS is of Illinois. Mc's is my empoyer and

Corporate offices are in Oak Brook. They have been very willing to work with

us regarding Cassie's care. They have yet to turn down any request made from

her Dr's for anything. We've never had to fight for anything. So... What do

you need? Ph, by the way I have an extra in with BCBS of ILL. I'm the human

resource mamanger for my parents company, one of the many hats I wear. I

have spend quite a bit of time getting them pay for stuff for other people,

and I also can call in my ties within our program administrator's office. I

just need a few more details on why the won't take BCBS. Also, here in the

state of Maine we have big insuarance problems with Antham BCBS so I'm sure I

could rattle a few people to our cause. Including the state insurance

commisioner.

let me know what we can do. We have been pushing this prodedure on Cassie's

Dr's and from what I hear Dr Sutherland is the man to do the procedure if he

can't take my insurance then he can't do it! Not only that, for what health

insurance costs it sucks if it can't help with you illnes. god bless

I want to let you know I am writing a letter to BCBS in regard to the need to

provide coverage for this surgery, and Pancreatitis in general. It is

extremely cost effective to provide treatment Vs deal with the complications

that can develop. I am patterning the letter after the numerous legislative

approaches that were undertaken to persuade Medicare to become so proactive

with preventive Diabetes care. We are on the same wave length. I'll let you

know. I will send it to BCBS as well as the National Insurance Board. I will

cc it to every member of congress. If you are interested in having it sent to

your state insurance board, please forward me the contact information. ASAP!

Additional information I need to support the letter are facts and figures

pertaining to the cost of your health care. Please spend some time and figure

out how much you spend on medications, hospitalizations, treatments,

diagnostics, psychiatric care, Diabetes. My emphasis is on the fact that an

Islet Cell Transplant will prevent Diabetes when done in an effective time

period with certain considerations. Effective pain management will minimize

or reduce ER visits, et. I need cost comparisons. I have worked in insurance

prior approval and authorization for a decade. I will take any information

you can send me and make a plea for this.
