Definition of syrinx please!

Hi all:

I just recently found myself in the unknown land of possibly having

a " syrinx " . Although I know somewhat of what it is (sort of a bubble

on the spine, I think??), I'd like to know in layman's terms more

about it. Also, I'd like to know how that might affect my

decompression that is scheduled here in St. on February 26.

This is so I understand it myself, plus so that I can explain it to

my family and my daughters.

Any insight/translation is appreciated!
