Guest guest
Hi group Similar to others here, we have had problems with die-off from the yeast attack we have waged in the last month. We started the Nystatin slooooowwwwwwllly, taking about two and a half weeks to hit the dose of 1ml 4X per day, which we finally reached in the last week or so. Stimming increased rapidly, and noted increased hyperactivity throughout the period. We had not seen this kind of regression since before we started our interventions a year ago. Scary, and we almost bailed many times in fear of losing the ground we had made. Especially got worse after we added 1/2 ProBio Gold, but I really understand Shaw's position in his book that probiotics are needed to prevent the bacteria from taking over once the yeast is killed. I agaonized over seeing him regress. Ring around anus appeared and disappeared many times. Lots of loose stools, very horrible smelling. As a last ditch effort at hustling along die-off to its final conclusion, we added activated charcoal last week. Gave Nick a full capsule (big mistake) for 2 days in a row at night before bed. Stopped to see if any changes. Improvement was seen on second day. Nick became much less focused on his visual stimming, and much more playful and relaxed again. BUT, he became incredibly constipated for FOUR days. He has never been constipated in his whole life. Tummy was hard and distended. On the night of the third day, gave him suppository - no result. Next night, thankfully, the suppository worked. Scary. If I use the charcoal again, I would use only 1/4 or 1/2 the capsule per day. So anyway, we seem to have reached calmer seas with this. Even though Shaw's book said die-off should last only 2-3 days, we are at a month+ Kirkman advised this can happen with some kids. We will persevere, and things seem to be getting better (finally)! I think the charcoal really helped clean out his system. I will use it again for a few days if stimming continues or increases. I will be adding in Kirkman's yeast control next week at half dose to see if we can maintain the good flora and hopefully get rid of Nystatin in a few months. Thanks for the advice and support from all of you! This die-off thing is horrible, and I can see why so many parents quit before fixing the problem.
