RE: sudafed /narco a no-no for me/OTc perc(something)

Probably Guaifenesin. It is a no side effect medication (expectorant) that

you can now get otc. Alot of fibromyalgia people are using it. There is a

book called " What your doctor may not tell you about fibromyalgia " that

explains a theory that some peoples bodys have too much phosphates in them

or dont expel them correctly and guaifenesin helps that and alleviates a lot

of other things. Do a google search for guaifenesin or fibromyalgia and you

might find some interesting reading. I think the authors last name is St.

Amand. I take guai.

With the Chiari, I now suffer with high blood pressure. I have been warned

not to take any sudafed,contact, etc...as it could possibly cause a stroke.

I had never heard of using a decongestant to combat my fibro and will be

I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia (although not so sure anymore) and

guaifenesin didn't help me at all. It was prescribed to me for sinus

congestion so I asked my rheumy about it after reading up on it's affects on

fibro. He said he'd up it for me if I wanted to try it...although it really

wasn't considered a form of therapy for fibro yet. Anyway, it did nothing

for me. That doesn't mean it won't work for you. People respond in

different ways to different meds. Although I'm glad you found that the

sudafed works for you some.

Hi..Just wanted to briefly comment on this...

Although I am not doubting that relief was obtained, Sudafed,etc. are

certainly not for everyone with chiari. I can't take then at all! I have

heart racing,etc....not a " good thing "

One of the things that my surgeon suggested for me when decongestion issues

occurred was something as simple as Menthol Eucalyptus Cough drops. I get an

impressive amount of relief from them and there is very little potential for

problems with them.

Menthol inhalants are also a possibility...

Nether of these is a dramatic cure, of course but they can certainly

help with some symptomatic relief.

I'm with Sally on this one. Sudafed and anything with guyfenesen (sorry

about the spelling) make my heart race and give me shooting pains all

through my body as well. No one's ever been able to tell me why, just that

I should avoid these meds. Menthol drops do help a lot. There is also an

herbal tea (and I don't remember the brand) that's great for decongestion.

The same company makes one called Throat Cote that's great for throat

troubles.
