Guest guest
We had decided to start trying Kirkman's Enzyme Complete over our 7yr old daughter's Christmas break. Well, on her last day of school she had an infraction-part of an ice cream cone and a couple of the wrapped Christmas chocolates. I freaked but then remembered the enzymes waiting in my fridge-gave them and hoped for the best. Well, we didn't see any of the behavior problems that have come with previous infractions(severely hyper, night waking, toileting accidents, regression with speech, etc) and she only had one mushy sour bm(sorry-gross) as opposed to several days of full blown diarrhea. Then...at Christmas she got ahold of a goey cookie and ate most of it...again I made sure she got the enzymes right away(I had been giving them about 3x a day since she kind of grazes and doesn't eat big meals) and we saw nothing to speak of from the cookie. Hmmm. I know some kids react less the longer they are on the diet(She has been on it since early last summer) but she has always had strong reactions to just small amounts before. I am so hopeful. I haven't seen any regression or increased hyper activity from the enzymes so far and she's slept about 10 hrs a night since starting them. So far I've only been giving her 1/8 tsp doses. I'm not sure how long to wait before increasing?? Kathy
Guest guest
Hi Kathy, That is really so good to hear...especially around Christmas. Congratulations! > I know some kids react less the longer they are on the diet(She has > been on it since early last summer) but she has always had strong > reactions to just small amounts before. This is probably a good recommendation because starting slowly seems to decrease the abrupt hyperness some people see on enzymes. Getting a good nights sleep can be immensely helpful and healing. When we started on the amitryptiline a few years ago (it promotes deep slee), our sensory issues dropped like a brick. My neuro said, and I have since researched, that during deep sleep your body produces some hormones that regular pain sensitivity. Getting that sleep seemed to bring pain reactions into a more typical level - not overly or underly reactive. My neuro was adamant that we go to sleep at the same time and wake at the same time...and it does make a difference. >>So far I've only been giving her 1/8 tsp doses. I'm not sure how long to wait before increasing?? If she is doing well, meaning not reacting badly, then it has been enough time it you want to try increasing the dosage. Usually 2-4 days seems to be long enough for the body to adapt to increases in enzymes. Maybe try 1/2 capsule now, if you think she needs it. .
