Stacey >> Hi Stacey, I feel bad for you, you are just not in a place yet where you have enough confidence to know that doctor doesn't know what he is talking about. I do not have an autistic child, I have CFIDS/FM but I have been at this since 1979. It was a very painful process to get through in the beginning, becoming so disillusioned with the medical community. It was and is a terrible trial when they set themselves up as such authorities and in so doing cause you to start to doubt yourself. In the beginning of my illness, I went to doctor after doctor. Each one telling me how my condition wasn't serious, looking at me like I was crazy. It took me 8 years to get a diagnosis. I understand what you are going through. After a while you will figure out that medical school evidently teaches them all to think a certain way and look at illness/health a certain way and they just can't see it any differently. They don't even make any sense, but maybe they are just too busy and immersed that they never take the time to think it through. I don't know. They don't understand that there is more going on then just what you find in a medical journal. I have seen with my own eyes, people who were so sick as to be completely unable to work and do research online and come up with answers that brought them back to health...back to exercise...back to work. No, I am not talking about hearing it online. I personally have a friend who I saw that happen to. I have myself on a number of occassions found solutions that helped me improve and sometimes eliminate symptoms by something I found online and still have a doctor look me right in the face and tell me I didn't. LOL What really boils me though, is more than that these doctors think they know everything, but that they just don't even care about people who are really suffering. They don't care enough to see that they aren't helping them at all and then to top it off are not listening to them, dismissing their suffering, not putting any money into real research in these areas that need it, and then putting obstacles in their way for them to try to help themselves. What do they want us all to do, just crawl into a corner and die? lol Sorry, guess I am a little sensitive to this topic [g] At any rate, please don't carry that doomed feeling around another minute. There is hope for your child to get better. You have to be careful, you have to be thorough but there is a lot of information and the possiblility that you can find answers for your child. There are people who are finding them. Minimize your risks, go carefully and make the best decisions you can. That is all I can think of that any of us can do. If the doctors don't have anything to offer you any way, then it really isn't much of a loss. Hang in there.. :-) Jane
