5 days on enzymes...how long to see results?

My son has been on the Kirkmans EnzymAid w/ DPP IV for 5 days. He's a grazer

so I give 1 cap. every fours hrs unless it look like he's going to eat a

while meal, then I add another cap, or if it's time for one anyway, I give 2.

I see no improvement in beh. but it was a really hyper/goofy/got into

things/made messes kind of afternoon. Is this a typical good response and we

just ride out the temporary behavior?

Enzymes are good for about four hours if you are dissolving them into

very cold juice or freezing them into ice or something like that.

Then you can have him sip the juice every once in a while, so he can

then " graze " . But you have to make a new juice mixture after about

four hours. Once your child ingests the enzymes, they are then good

for about an hour or so after ingesting.

Is he gfcf? This does sound like a partial adjustment/withdrawal

reaction.

Okay, that's good to know, I guess I'll go with one cap. with little snacks

and 2 for bigger ones or " meals " . He WILL NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES drink

a drink with " stuff " in it!!LOL He was gf/cf for 4 yrs, then about 18 months

after secretin we realized he was no longer as sensitive to g/c. He has been

off diet for about 8 months and his behavior, while not great, is not any

worse than when still on diet. In fact, just prior to going off diet, his

behavior was pretty bad (not sleeping, tantrums all day, etc.) I think he may

have phenol problems and he eats ketchup and barbeque sauce like a side dish

instead of a condiment. He is soooo skinny that we were concerned with the

lack of weight gain on the diet. He has gained 20 lbs since last Sept. (when

we went off diet) and he is still skinny as a rail (he's prob grown 2 inches

as well). We did find a Dr. about 1hr 45 min away who does chelation and

uses Great Smokies Tests. She (receptionist) said about 99% of kids with

autism get the Comp. Stool analysis and a blood test for mercury. I told her

how on this list the hair one is rec. and that there may be mercury problems

even if " mercury " is not high on the test results. She said that yes, they

believed that as well. Is the blood test okay then if it's still checking

for other things being 'out of whack " ? My son's insurance is not accepted

there (or hardly anywhere) so I don't want to waste our time and money on

someone who is not going to help. Any suggestions for making sure he'll be

helpful?
