Guest guest
Thanks to everyone who responded. I am definately going to pursue this further. To answer some questions, I recieved an MRI without contrast and they did not check for a syrinx that I know of. Do they check for a syrinx automatically on an MRI or only if their looking for one? My brother did not have one. My brother (Shaun) is doing better. He had some major complications following his surgery and had to be hospitalized three times after being released from his surgery. He developed very severe menengitis and also a CSF leak. He was leaking out of his incision and when they restitched that, he started leaking from his eyes, ears, and nose. They decided not to do further surgery for the leak at the time because he started feeling better. He is still having problems from the CSF leak and they are now looking at putting in a permanent shunt that would drain to somewhere in his abdomen. But a lot of his Chiari symptoms have improved quite a bit. After watching him, the idea of surgery is not too appealing, but if it would improve my quality I'll do it. I am a young mom to two sweet little girls that deserve my full attention and I am willing to do just about anything to get better. Does anybody know of any doctors in Utah that are familiar with Chiari? My brother is only 15 so he had a pediatric neurosurgeon or else I'd got to the same one.
