Hi everyone! I finally have my decompression surgery

scheduled for Jan 29 at 2:00. This will actually be

my first stay at a hospital (well since birth that

is). What would you suggest I bring with me?

Also, what should I do to my house to prepare for my

recovery? or should I have anything on hand? Any

suggestions you have would be helpful.

Thanks for any input

All you need is slippers and some comfortable sweats and a shirt with a wide

collar (or something that buttons up), and, of course your toothbrush and

necessary toiletries!!! For the first couple days you will be in bed but

when you are able to get up and walk around, you'll want something to put

on. I packed my husband a full week's worth of shirts/sweats, etc. and he

ended up wearing maybe two of the shirts and one pair of sweats! So my

suggestion is pack lightly!!!

Some other things we found very helpful were phone calling cards, crossword

puzzles and magazines and munchies. I'm afraid I'm one of those " be

prepared " people, but those items really helped! God Bless Melody

PS: Disposable cameras can provide a little fun along the way. Smiles are

some of the best medicine!

The only thing I brought with me was a change of clothes. (To wear home,

since I spend the entire stay in a hospital gown).

At home I made sure I had lots of pillows for my bed, made sure I knew where

the remote was, moved the phone closer to the bed, my cousin brought me a

lot of books to read, and later my husband had to go & buy me some straws

(it was really hard for me to sit all the way up to drink & I couldn't bend

my head back to drink normally so I needed to drink from a straw for

awhile). I also had to have a " bucket " near me for awhile. And film for my

camera (I wanted pictures). I set it up with my cousin to come & help with

some of the housework so that everything wasn't dumped on my husband. I

wish I had moved the computer to the bedroom, but it's probably better that

I didn't because with only the TV in there I got a lot more sleep that I

would have if I had access to the computer! :0)

Hope this helps.
