Guest guest
Hi everybody. First of all, I want to say I've been lurking about, reading posts for about two weeks now, but have never needed to post until now. You all seem so knowledgeable, and after reading your posts for so long, I feel as though I know you! And I apologize in advance, but this is going to be a long one... Background: My son is 2 1/2 yrs old. He was diagnosed with PDD two weeks after his second birthday. He seems to have a mild case. He makes eye contact with us, engages us in the programs he's viewing (ie, when he sees something " neat " , he looks as us as if to say " did you see that? " ), plays " I'm going to get you " and hide and seek type games. He eats very little...Hawaiian bread, pancakes, hot dogs, Mcs cheeseburgers, and french fries, pasta, mac and cheeze, Hostess chocolate chip mini-muffins, and pizza. That's about it. He will also eat the occasional banana, but not very often. Also, he drinks nothing but juice, and I always make sure that his juice is 100% fruit juice. He's been seeing a nutritional therapist, in addition to others. She had us put him on a multi-vitamin (made by Natrol), and also a teaspoon of flaxseed oil daily. I read about Peptizyde a few months back, and kept it in the back of my mind. I also had been reading about the GFCF diet, but was wondering how could I possibly do that, since my son's diet is made up of so much bread? Then, a friend told me about seeing Karyn Seroussi on the Today show a few weeks ago, and urged me to read her book. Once I started reading the questions in the back of the book, I started to understand a little bit about why my son's diet is the way it is. Before I start the GFCF diet, I decided to try the Peptizyde. We received it on Thurs, 4/25, and gave him one in his juice, with a piece of Hawaiian bread for his snack, at about 7pm. He had been constipated for a few days, and about 2 hours after his snack, he had a large BM. Since then though, no major improvements in BMs. We've also noticed a little increased hyperactivity, and a little increased agression, which I understand is normal. He was never agressive at all before, but this morning when I tried to brush his teeth, he threw a bit of a tantrum, and hit my arm, and pushed it away. We have noticed minor improvements in other behaviors, such as a little better eye contact with people he is not too familiar with, and it seems as though he is doing a little more imitating than he had in the past. Also, he is speaking in his own little language more, most often " singing " to his Barney videos. Now for the questions: 1) When I send my son to his sitter's house each day, I send two of his juice cups, one marked breakfast, and the other marked lunch, with a 1/2 capsule of Peptizyde in each of the juice cups. Is it ok to do it this way, or would I be better off sending the capsules, and having the sitter put them in his juice before his meals? He usually eats two pancakes for breakfast, plain, and a hot dog for lunch, usually with a piece of Hawaiian bread. 2) I noticed a lot of talk about fruits and veggies, and needing a seperate enzyme for those. My son does not eat fruits or veggies, but does drink A LOT of watered down juice during the day. Would he need these other enzymes as well? I did actually just place an order for HN-ZYME PRIME last night, just to see if he would improve further using this as well. I am just wondering if the juice has the same effect as eating fruit. 3) Since starting the Peptizyde, his appetite has seemed to decrease. He did not have a great appetite to begin with. Is this normal? I should add at this time that exactly one week after starting the Peptizyde, he broke out with chicken pox, so that may have something to do with his decreased appetite. It is a mild case, and he's not even really scratching, nor has it changed his demeanor at all, in other words, if it weren't for the dots, you wouldn't even know he was sick! 4) The last few nights, it seems as though his thirst has increased. Again, not sure if this is related to the chicken pox (he has no fever), or could this be a side effect of the Peptizyde? He seems to be craving juice a lot more than normal. 5) Tomorrow will be two weeks since we started the Peptizyde. Like I stated earlier, we have noticed slight improvements. Can we expect to see more improvements as time goes on? I'm just wondering if the improvements happen all at once, or if they are minor improvements, a little at a time. Again, sorry for the long read, and thanks in advance for the help!! Kathy, mommy to Brett (2 1/2 - PDD) and (7 1/2)
