Hi,

Good to hear of an Adelaide adventure............. Glad to hear all went

well.............despite cysts etc........... I will look forward to

hearing more adventures as the hip heals and you regain your normal

life............

things medical " wimp. I was diagnosed with severe OA of the right hip about

5 years ago and more recently with extensive cysts in the ball of the

affected hip joint. Advice was given by my OS to proceed with a resurface as

a matter of urgency, as further degradation of the joint would preclude hip

resurfacing as an option. The bookings were made and I had an agonising two

months contemplating my decision prior to surgery. There were many, many

occasions when I panicked and was on the verge of cancelling, however the

ability to access the thoughts and experiences of other hip resurfacers

through this chat site was extremely valuable.

resurface was an ASR.

Hi Jean

As a fellow aussie (Perth) with OA in the right hip, I was very

pleased to see your recent post ... in particular the fact that you

were able to locate a local surgeon who was quite prepared to take

you on as a resurfacing (??) patient ... I assume the procedure ASR

is resurfacing .. what does it stand for?

Here in the west there are 3 of us (at least) who are members of this

group, and have sought (in vain, to date) for a surgeon prepared to

take us on as resurfacing candidates ... between us we

have " interviewed " 3 of the 4 on the list of surgeons provided on

the " official list " and we have all been advised to be very wary of

the procedure, and have been encouraged to either " manage the

problem " until we are older (we are mid 30's, mid 40's and early

50's) or go for a THR. None of us are happy (or accepting) of these

recommendations.

Therefore, moving east, SA is the next stop. Can you tell me (us)

some more about your surgeon's experience ... how many resurfs they

have done ... did they initially suggest THR ?? ... did you talk to

other patients of the surgeon before proceeding ... and who was the

surgeon?

Thanks very much.
