Guest guest
Hello, I started swimming @ 2 weeks post op, and since I surf I like to try to keep my lung capacity up, so I began swimming under water (scuba style) with smaller fins. I had some discomfort in the front of my groin in the first few sessions, but by week 4 I could swim hard with legs only. Scuba fins are huge, but at week seven your partner should be ok for mellow diving. I would suggest some pool time (once it's ok with the Doc) to test things out first. I went body surfing yesterday at 10 weeks post op and wore fins, and even took some waves and let them " roll " me to see how it will feel when I start surfing again and wipe out. I have some trouble still with bringing my surgical knee toward my chest, but it's not painful, it's just restricting. But I think diving will be a great way for your partner to start feeling great again. Let me know how the original pool sessions go, and by all means talk to the doctor about it first. Guest guest
I seem to remember that I dived some 8 weeks after the resurfacing – max depth about 39m, average depth about 27m, length of dive 40+min. No problems whatsoever. Thought that left-right balance might be affected due to approx. half-a-kilo of metal alloys in my left hip, but I dived without any unintentional rotation. Last week I took out 3 divers for a refresher dive and demonstrated all the balance / float control positions without any hindrance. I’d say that my movement through water has improved since the resurfacing (not surprising, as my movement above water has improved dramatically as well). Guest guest
Thanks for the reply. My main worries are the bends. wwight bearing with all the gear, and dislocation in the Red Sea! It's reassuring to know someone else has done it without problem. We'll just have to see how it goes I suppose. > I seem to remember that I dived some 8 weeks after the resurfacing †" max depth about 39m, average depth about 27m, length of dive 40+min. Guest guest
Dan I have a similar concern to Val re weight bearing. I'm a big guy, dive maybe 2 or 3 times a year and always in a 5mm wetsuit, because of the cold. Coming out of the water, I'm carrying a lot of weight...did you feel any vulnerability in the new hip between when you emerged from the water until you took your gear off? (BTW I've only been diving for a couple of years). Thanks Tony > I seem to remember that I dived some 8 weeks after the resurfacing †" max depth about 39m, average depth about 27m, length of dive 40+min. No problems whatsoever.
