Guest guest
Hi , The answer to this question is like the answer to the meaning of one's life.......... only each of us can answer it for ourselves based on our own situation, needs etc........smile. However the base line comes down to what you regard as better off in the future........... what you envisage your future as like at this point...........and what damage you are doing to the rest of your body compensating.......... and will you be happy with a THR instead if you leave it beyond being able to be resurfaced........ I managed without any hip at all for 35 years............ However each day now I battle with extensive arthritis in my spine and other joints............ mainly curtsy of using the rest of my body badly to compensate........... so I have a nice hip and a body that struggles to cope............. Now I had no choice until a wonderful surgeon took down my fused hip 2 years ago......... for me it was a no brainer..........and even the pain I have in my new hip because the muscles are still recovering is worth getting the stress off my spine...........and yes the BHR is very stable even in a body like mine with a lot of muscle athrophy.......... In any event I wish you all the best in making your decision whatever the outcome......... Guest guest
--Hi Edith....thanks for the encouraging words. I don't think I really have much of a choice. I didn't take into account the stress on the other joints as I try to compensate for the hip. I have had pain in my knee from compensating. Better to bite the bullet now while I still can walk to the hospital. ... - In surfacehippy , " ecrow " wrote: > Hi , > > The answer to this question is like the answer to the meaning of one's > life.......... only each of us can answer it for ourselves based on our own > situation, needs etc........smile. > > However the base line comes down to what you regard as better off in the > future........... what you envisage your future as like at this > point...........and what damage you are doing to the rest of your body > compensating.......... and will you be happy with a THR instead if you leave > it beyond being able to be resurfaced........ > > I managed without any hip at all for 35 years............ Guest guest
I've got AVN too. The devious nature of AVN is that you can get your good weeks or even months, but the pain usually comes back worse each time. I finally had a resurfacing, but it was an easier decision for me because it was during one of those intensely painful periods. I only had my left leg done, but also have AVN in the right hip. I have had about two months now of very little pain and was enjoying being able to do things like exercising again. Unfortunatley, my right hip has started to go out in the last few weeks. Once the pain gets too intense, I will have the right resurfaced too, but I will do it a lot sooner this time. The AVN just never got better and I have had a taste of what it is like to be pain free again. > Back in December when I first felt the pain from AVN it was intense. > I could only walk a few blocks until the pain was too bad. Guest guest
--Its funny...lately I have found that I can almost walk normally. No limp if I remind myself not to limp but to walk properly. The avn reminds me on occasion that it is still there but there is little pain at all. The surgeon's office tells me that I have a 6-12 month wait for surgery so time will tell if the pain returns. Good luck with your right hip and may God bless you abundantly... - In surfacehippy , " mooshters " wrote: > I've got AVN too.
