Guest guest
Carinatum is also called " pigeon breast " where the breast bone curves out from the body. Excavatum means the breast bone sinks into the chest causing a " valley " Re: pectus carinatum? I don't know what pectus carinatum is... Guest guest
Does she have other issues that most with EDS don¹t have? For instance I was found that my heart was actually twisted and located towards the back of my chest - very hard to find for an echocardiogram. How about her lungs? And I am wondering if it is something that progresses or stays stagnant? Did she have surgery for it? If so is surgery only done up to a certain age while bones are still forming? Thanks. Guest guest
Are you finding organs located where they are not expected to be? Do docs pay much attention to that? How about twisted GI issues? Crowded lungs? Did it worsen when you were pregnant - if so; is there anyway of undoing it? Thanks. Guest guest
I was told only on Thursday that my breastbone sticks out. my answer to this was OH! so I guess that explais why I always managed to catch my xiphoid (the bottom bit of the breast bone) on the edge of tables and benches really HURTING myself. SO I guess that could mean I have pectus carinatum although mine doesn't look like the picture it isn't that prominent. No body else has ever picked it up (it was my osteopath who noticed it). Guest guest
Hi, I have a slight pectus excavatum, which causes my breast bone to sink in slightly and cause the " valley " Bonnie mentioned. It makes my chest cavity pretty narrow when mixed with my rib cage twist but doesn't really cause any pain itself. In fact I'm kind of grateful to it at times as it's nearest I get to having a cleavage!! ;-) Love and hugs...Jo xxx

Guest guest
I've never been told that my organs were out of place. My lungs are definitely crowded. I don't remember if it was worse during pregancy. I DO know that when I was pregnant, one of the ribs separated. I didn't know I had EDS then. Don't know it the GI tract is twisted... I've had several upper and lower GI barium studies and nothing was ever mentioned to me. Guest guest
Laxity: Do you have pectus carinatum also. Pectus carinatum was most prominent for my dtr. at about 13 ,14 though she did not notice it till the doctor mentioned it and she was rather worried to be different. It seems to have flattened some as she has matured but one breast is definitely smaller than the other which she comments on frequently, particularly as she is very tiny busted and thin. Perhaps it only seems flattened because of breast development. It limits choice of a bra to one that does not press on the protruding bone as that is painful to her. Bra shopping is hell already with an adolescent, add on this problem and mother is in hell. Cardiologist did not have problems finding her heart for echo and when she has had tachycardia 180 bpm that she could feel in her throat and jaw and chest, I could see her heart clearly pounding in her chest, with chest wall vibrating so feel pretty certain heart is in the normal place. Has not required surgery. Also has mild scoliosis 10 degrees or less. Perhaps that is what contributes to it.
