Guest guest
Hi, I am also new to site and on the waiting list for an BHR in Vancouver. The surgeon is Dr. Nels Greidanus at VGH. I am 52... so i'm sure you are in the ballpark at 54. I had to have a bone density test to make sure that the bones were strong enough. The bad news in Vancouver is that the waiting lists seem to be long ( 6 months minimum for a consultation, then a 9-12 month waiting list for the operation). It is covered by Pacific Blue Cross, but I have to pay $3000 extra for the hardware(?!) The good news is that there is a great pre- operative patient education program with lots of different classes on everything from managing your pain/ fatigue , stress management, communication skills, dealing with emotions etc etc and a pre-op. physical therapy program. hope this helps. from Irene in Vancouver. Re: New to Site I can't answer the Vancouver part but I was 58 when I had my surgery last May so you're definitely not too old! Depends on how active you want to remain and for me giving up downhill skiing for the rest of my life was unacceptable - as well as the other restrictions THR puts on a person. All the best! ruth 5/13/03 DeSmet > After reading an article in our local paper in Vancouver I am > interested in finding out who in Vancouver offers this resurfacing > procedure.
