commitment, and sense of humor. I will be getting resurfaced by Dr.

Feldman in Englewood NJ on Wed. 7/7. I am in lots of pain and am

having difficulty not only in my " bad " hip but now in my other hip as

well. I don't feel comfortable traveling on planet earth in the usual

ways. I'm good with swimming, cycling, and sometimes dancing. I was a

professional dancer for many years until OA took over. Has anyone

else experienced the other hip going " bad " just prior to surgery?

Have no idea why my post didn't post! But here's what I said:

First of all, you will be in all our thoughts tomorrow. As another

dancer who is 6 weeks ahead of you -- I had my surgery on May 26 -- I

think you will love the wonderful changes you are about to experience.

Re your " good " hip giving you trouble: It may be bearing an increased

responsiblity right now -- especially if you have gone off your anti-

inflammatories, which many of us have to do, pre-surgery. I know that

my pain/limping increased substantially in the days just before

surgery; I found out exactly how much those anti-inflammatories were

helping. I thought going " cold turkey " was a plot to teach me just

how much I needed surgery. My good hip, which also has OA but still

behaves (one doc told me dancers at ABT and NYCB would kill for my

turnout and extension), held up OK and post-surgery is still bearing

up. But even if your good hip is bad now, it may improve as your

situation changes.

I wish you every good thing for tomorrow and the weeks that follow.

Do you still have my phone number? Don't hesitate to call, and if you

need the number again let me know.

All best,

Hi ,

I wish you well tomorrow. I'll be sure to keep you in my prayers! My

time is coming soon, just about a month away (August 11th), so I will

be right in your " shoes " (anti-embolism socks?) before I know it.

It's just a guess, but perhaps your increased good-side pain has to

do with how much you are favoring the bad side, since it has been so

painful lately. Back in May, I helped out at an all day fund raiser

for my kids school and was on my feet for about 5 hours straight

working at a stadium concession stand. For several days after this I

had a tremendous amount of pain in my good hip.

I have AVN along with my OA, but none of the doctors I've seen have

any idea why. I was scared that the AVN had gone to my other joint

(this is quite common with AVN that is caused by systemic steroids,

but I have not taken them)-- Fortunately, my pain was merely from my

good side having done " double-duty " for such a long time.

Again, I wish you a successful surgery and an exceptionally speedy and

uneventful recovery!
