Guest guest
As a tennis player I was plagued with calf cramps, post surgery, almost every time I played too hard-and I became very frustrated. Finally, a friend of mine who was an athletic trainer at the U. of Wisconsin and later the trainer for the San NHL hockey team gave me some advice. I) He said that if I was cramping early in my play, it meant that I was not warming up properly or just not in good enough conditioning shape yet. 2) If it was happening later in the tennis match then maybe I wasn't drinking enough water. Duh!! That was the answer. I realized that I didn't drink that much water on a regular basis. The trainer said that MOST PEOPLE ARE DEHYDRATED and don't realize it. A note about drinking water: If you overdo it, you could start flushing the salt out of your body that you need. I read in a recent running magazine that 8oz. every 15 minutes is sufficient during heavy athletic activity. In conclusion, you need to train and get back in shape in a systematic manner and drink that water and/or Gatorade. Guest guest
Saeed, et al... I was reluctant to mention the Gatorade, as I talked in earlier posts about hydration. (didn't want to get too commercial). But when I was playing heavy handball, I found it worked better for me than water. After I started with it... even playing in 80 degree+ weather, I never cramped again.
