Question - possible hernia?

Yep, it's that time again - Jo's curious questions!!

I'm asking to pick your brains regarding a strange lump I have

appearing at certain times. It tends to be more obvious when I am

lying down, where a 2-3 inch long " sausage " (the only way I can

describe it!) appears in the mid-lower right quadrant of my abdomen.

It looks and feels awfully like a section of bowel and has me a

little concerned that I may be developing a hernia - but don't want

to look a complete fool, so I thought I would ask my expert family

here for their opinions!

The " sausage " can be very prominent and is very palpable. When I lay

down it pops up straight away then gradually reduces in size and

will pretty much disappear when I sit or stand up, although at times

it has been obvious when upright as well and I've had to push it

back. The area where this lump appears is quite tender and often

aches. I also get a fair amount of imprecise lower quadrant pain

from suspected IBS, get frequent feelings of my bowel shutting down

and have had three small blockages this year too - the biggest being

after my shoulder surgery in April.

I'm starting to wonder whether their is a link between my abdomen

pain and this sausage/lump now and am thinking of mentioning it when

I'm in the hospital. Any thoughts or suggestions in the mean time

though anyone? Thanks in advance.

Love and hugs....Jo
