Guest guest
Hi You probably have heterotopic ossifiation (new bone formation)....that can to some extent compromise the result of a BHR or even a THR in terms of stiffness, so consider Indomethacin capsules (antiinflammatory medication after surgery) to prevent new bone forming, or radiation. I do have patients who have gone back o high impact sport like karate, judo, tennis, etc at about 6mths to a yearafter surgery. (2) Sorry again, I went to Belgium. The local OA's only do THR. (3) Much more! I'm back to being a kid again. (4) OA grows bone to stabilize the joint as cartilage disappears. Once the joint surfaces are renewed, indomethacin for several weeks works just fine until the body gets used to the new joints and the repair process slows. I get enough radiation out in the yard! (5) Aerobics at about 6 weeks. Soccer at about 6 months. My legs still aren't anywhere near their former strength especially around the hips, but they're coming along. I'm having a ball (no pun intended).) Good luck! Steve Vince Bilat BHR De Smet Jan 6, 2004

Guest guest
I understand your concern. I had the same concerns before my C+ (LH) on July 12,04. I decided when the bad days exceeded the good days it was time to go ahead.. My decision was based on preserving as much bone as necessary in the event of an unlikely revision. I'm glad I didn't wait. Base your decision on as much info you can find about the doctor. Be sure the hospital has an excellent ortho unit.I had my done in Ft.Worth and fortunately is covered by insurance. Going into my 6th day post-op I feel things are much better since weened off painkillers but sleep is few and far between. I know that will pass also. I'm also a firm believer in staying in the US if possible. I waited until my Dr. performed enough procedures before scheduling my surgery. Guest guest
Hi I'm in El Paso, TX. Who did you go to in Ft Worth?? That is a log closer to me than L.A. Guest guest
1)I was covereed by PCHS so can't help you there. But Dr Allan's staff did all of the work ing getting me pre=-approved. He said it wouldn't be an issue and it wasn't. 2) I had my right hip done by Dr. Allan Aug 6. 2003.He did a great job. I have had and still have a plate and several screws ith the top of the right femur since 1988, he attempted to remove them but had problems with the screws and ended up leaving it all in and putting ther resurf on top of what was there. HE is a great Doc., not very chatty but willing to take on a challange and very concerned with his patients wishes. I went in on Wed. AM and was out Fri. afternoon. 3) It has been GREAT!! I woke up out of pain for the fist time in two years. I feel like I was given my life back!! The only negative that I can think of is the fact that I will never be able to walk through an airport metal dector again without it going off, but that give me a chance to tell the agents how geartI feel now! 4)I can't take indomethician, so I had the radiation. I had my surgery at Memerial Hospital in Springfield. The hospital was and care I got was very good, but the crew that gave me the radiation was absolutely " top shelf " . As far as the radiation... no ill effects whatsoever. 5) I'm not a big sports player..I've been ridind a stationary bike, and see no ill effects there. I have resumed riding my touring motorcycle and have no problems at all. There are plenty fo people here on the board who can give better " sports " testimonies than myself. If you would like to follow up about Dr Allan, feel free to contact me directly. Baldy > > > HI, I'm 50 and active and am looking at hip resurfacing.
