Guest guest
Thanks for your replies and support. I went for my blood test this afternoon, but the phlebotomist couldn't tell me anything about the tests. All the form said was " bone chemistry " which is a test I've never had done before, so added to the oddity of the " repeat " blood test request letter and left still pretty puzzled, but I hoped I would find out more from my doctors appt later on. However, after seeing the duty doc I am actually even more puzzled than before! He was really nice and checked over my primary issue, the infection on yet another old scar that's broken down first. He's rather concerned about the severity of it actually and is treating it very aggressively with high dose antibiotics and cream to avoid it spreading down my leg. Just hope it responds well to the antibiotics as the horrible side effects I get from these ones need to be worthwhile! Anyway, after checking over my leg and writing my script, I asked the doc if he could tell me anything about the blood test request. He said he didn't know much about it but from what he could access of my notes, it has actually come from the hospital. Seems like it has something to do with Mac and Prof and is linked with my bone density scan - I'm just not sure why on either issue though. All I can assume is that Mac has phoned Prof following my appt last week and somehow the need for bone chemistry blood work has been decided....but even that explanation seems a little odd. So I'm no wiser as to what they are actually checking with this bone chemistry work up (can't find any info on it online either) or why supposedly Mac and Prof have arranged it. I'm planning on calling my own GP tomorrow to see if he can give me more info than the duty doctor, not that I hold out much hope from the dim-witted so-and so to be honest. If as expected I don't get any joy, I may try calling Mac direct to see if he can give me a better idea of what is happening. Will keep you posted as I find out anything and hopefully will also have a date for my stay with Prof too. Thanks again for the prayers and support, I know I'm probably being a real wimpy worry wort...but I am scared right now. Nobody else in family who has had the DEXA scan has had a bone chemistry blood test done as part of it...so why am I having done? I guess I just want some reassurance that there's nothing serious behind all this. Love and hugs....Jo xx

Jo....I had both done at the same time because my doctor wanted to see if the calcium supplements I was taking for a bad hip were actually getting absorbed into the bone, versus staying in my bloodstream. Previous supplementation hadn't been absorbing properly and my blood calcium level was abnormally high. Hopefully having the duo at the same time will just give you better info! Guest guest
Jo: I think this is a good thing, a very good thing that Mac is consulting with Dr. Bird. It is win win for you in that Mac may be able to implement something before you see the " Bird " , or that the blood chemistry the " Bird " will need will have been done and he can go from there. You know Mac is concerned and he has done what the " best " Dr.'s do....get the ball rolling. He picked the " Bird Brain " , as in " Got any ideas, suggestions of what I should be checking to help this girl out. " She's got this and this and this happening. What would you suggest? Who knows, it may even result in some early trial treatment by Mac. Relax girl, the lab techs will never give me a bit of info either, and if I didn't make a point of reading the requisition before I handed it over, won't even give me the names of the tests. I was just being facetious about " the Bird " . I bet he is an exceptional doc. but the immature 5 yr. old in me won out and I know I'll end up having to take it back. Aching and pain can make the scared worse I know, so be certain to cover off the pain the very best you know how. Hugs and hugs and hugs Jo Bernie Re: Feeling scared - even more puzzled Thanks for your replies and support. Guest guest
Jo, Maybe they are checking for OI (Osteogenesis Imperfecta)to rule out you having OI instead or as well as your Marfan type EDS, what with all of your fractures and things lately. Maybe it is simply to rule in or out if you have an OI component to your health issues. That ywould make sense to me why these 2 docs would want this kind of testing done what with your recent injuries and things. Why not give Mac a call and tell him, he has you a litle nervous trying to work out why they wanted this test becasue the letter your GP sent said it was a REPEAT test and this concerned you and now you are concerned and CONFUSED??? Worth a try. Sharon > Thanks for your replies and support. I went for my blood test this > afternoon, but the phlebotomist couldn't tell me anything about the > tests. Guest guest
Jo, I don't know what bone chemistry blood tests are but they are doing them on everyone in the NIH study, try not to worry too much. Take Care! Love, S. Re: Feeling scared - even more puzzled > Thanks for your replies and support.
