Guest guest Posted July 18, 2004 Report Share Posted July 18, 2004 The docs in BC who are doing resurfacing using a Durom device (much the same) are Greidainus, Garbuz, Masri and Duncan - all in the same office on Broadway. Dr. A Smit in White Rock also does resurfacing and I don't know whether or not he is still using the BHR or has switched to something else. At this time I think these are the only docs and the waitlist are incredible - some of them have 2 year waits just to consult with them - but you can pay to see Dr. Masri (not sure about the others) at the Specialist Referral Clinis - let me know if you need more information on how to get in touch with them. It will cost you about $500.00 for a consult - almost nothing amortized over 2 years!!!! They all have surgery waitlists of about 2 years after the consult - BUT some of them are pushing the resurfacing ops a bit and so you might actually get in sooner than if you were having a THR. They are still very conservative about who they choose to operate on and you have to pay $3000.00 (approx) to have a resurfacing device instead of a thr. Let me know if I can give you anymore information. There are a whole bunch of us here in Vancouver who have travelled to England or Belgium or India for surgery. Obviously it saved us a lot of money to go to Belgium since we each needed and hip and in the end we could not have been happier with our choice (although I suspect we might say the same thing if we had gone to England - but they don't have the wonderful chocolate to assist with recovery!).
