Hi ,

I was bilat with the left much worse than the right. The left was

longer (pre-op) because I was not putting so much weight on it.

After bilat surfjobs, both legs were essentially the same length.

I'm pretty sure most leg length stuff will clear up once the op is

done and you get your muscles working correctly again. If your

shorter leg has arthritis, then all bets are off.

Good Luck

bilat Dr. Schmalzried July 2001.

Hi ,

I would think that this is one of those questions Dr. Feldman is the best

placed to answer......... for he will be the one taking bone off the femur

and placing the top cup......... These guys know what the degree of

possibilities are with any given xray of a situation I would

think..............and sounds like some investigation has already happened

given your scanagram..............

My joint had to be recarved out from the fused totality......... Initially

even the magician who did that thought it might be shorter from looking at

how it seemed before I started real weightbearing..... However now it would

seem both are equal even though I have my prothesis sitting lower than most

on the femur head.......... which is probably an option for those with

originally slighly longer legs.......... As I said, have a chat to the

OS............. see what provisions he will be making etc......what he

thinks about the situation............

> I'm scheduled to be resurfaced by Dr. Feldman in Englewood NJ July 7. My

concern is that my right leg is about an 1/2 inch longer than my left leg

which was verified by a scanagram measuring the bones in both legs. My

longer leg has the arthritic hip that will be resurfaced. I'm afraid that my

current leg length problem will be worse after surgery (that my resurfaced

leg will be even longer!) Has anyone else had this situation? Does anyone

have any thoughts about this that they would like to share?

Hi ,I dont think your leg length will be a big issue ,as

long as Dr. Feldman is aware of the problem.I would think it would be

more of an issue if your short leg was being worked on.I didnt know

there was a resurf Dr. in Jersey,I went to JRI. in cali. for mine.My

hip feels great but i have a little knee issue to work out.Why is

your one leg longer than the other? My 3 year old has a longer leg

caused by a problem called hemi hypertrophy. We are having her fit

with a lift for her shoes. I pray she doesnt end up with hip

problemslike her dad .I think my problems came from sports and flat

feet. Best of luck , let us know how it goes.

I have not seen any posts from you since before your surgery. How

did everything go? I am also from NJ and had my surgery Oct. 2003 at

JRI. Was Dr. Feldman able to help you with your leg length problem?

Are you sure one leg is longer which is very rare or is your pelvis tilted which

is far more common?
