Edith-

Congratulations. What an inspiration you are, as well as a constant

source of information. Out of curiosity-what are you studying? What

new vistas has this increased mobility opened up for you?

Feeling clever

Hi,

Within 1 month of my 2nd year anniversary I am feeling pretty happy

today.............. For 2 days I managed to sit for 7 hrs each day in a

classroom after driving down to the coast - an hrs journey with the

challenge of a very winding mountain road for half of it........... and

come

back home last night, all without a painkiller.......... and without

total

exhaustion.......i.e. I think I even remember some of the information

they

imparted about bodies and how they work........ Even went for a fast

walk

before class yesterday and semi ran back up a small hill where I was

staying.......... My family are still shocked by just that little

bit........... as many of them find it hard to think of slow walking up

the

150 mtrs.........and have grown so used to me being the family member

who

barely does anything........

This time 2 yrs ago even thinking of doing such would have had me

reaching

for the pain killers............. and I hate to think of how many I

would

have needed to actually do it.............then, like so many with hip

problems, I had paced myself out so much that I wouldn't have allowed

myself

to think about doing it.......... today the sorest part is the front of

ankle tendons from the little hill climb.........smile. And while no

doubt

still pretty insignificant in comparison to the lives of many is simply

an

incredible distance ahead of life 2 years ago........

All this because of an amazing surgeon and the inventiveness of other

surgeons.......... the great little device called a BHR........

Hi Eleanor,

Thanks...........

One of the things I had to deal with when I had acheived a reasonable

recovery was what do I do now.......... I am a bit too young and poor to

'retire' and one has to really have something to 'do'........... Dealing

with the fused hip had overtaken most of my life for years which is probably

fairly common for many people suffering intense health problem..........

Take that away and there is a void............. whoops what do I do

now.............smile

I decided a couple of months ago that having gotten some idea of what went

on in bodies perhaps I could both further that information and use what

experience I had already gained............. and use it to get a life again

after so many years of thinking my life was over............ So I am off

doing a course in becoming a fitness instructor......... which means I have

to get the names of all those muscles/bones etc off pat and understand a lot

more about how they interact and how one may get them stronger etc..........

I am grandma of the course but I figure that there are still a good many

people out there far older than me who want either to gain or to keep some

level of fitness and having gone from virtually zilch to some degree of

fitness, I know I do have some knowledge of how interesting that experience

can be...........smile. And these days the researchers are urging everybody

including those in aged care home to do more basic exercise..............

Later I will be concentrating on water fitness programs but here one has to

get close and personal with a gym and do these sorts of courses to gain the

certificates to do water rehab or getting fit via water programs for

people.............. and along the way I get to enjoy the sight of ultra fit

young men with these wonderful defined muscles playing with all this gym

equipment..........smile. So the vistas are indeed

interesting.............smile.
