Guest guest
: I haven't had any " clunks " yet but Dr. Gross said it was common and he said it was due to the hard bearing surfaces and thus I would think might be experienced by anyone with a M-o-M device whether THR or resurface. Guest guest
, I'm a month in and I still clunk. The doc's have told me it should subside over time as things tighten up around ground zero. But some have shared that they have permanent clunks, which I presume to be better than the agonizing " pops " we had before they fixed us. I remember simply turning sideways in the kitchen to grab a dish towel, and my (pre-op) hip popped, and sent me down to the tile. I endured HUNDREDS of those over the last 3 decades, so I'll settle for a painless clunk if I have too. Someone once told me that their permanent clunk serves to remind them that their resurf is there in lieu of the pain, and that she smiles when she clunks. C+ DR. Guest guest
that's a good attitude to have. My hip speaks to the entire class in ballet class. A dancer on the other side of the barre was appalled by it. But then, so am I. I think a percussion section has taken up residence inside it! Soon I'll " drum them out. Guest guest
I have never had any clunking. One of the lucky few I guess. For years PRE-op, I'd be minding my own business when I'd get a stabbing pain that sent me falling to the floor in agony. In truth, after surgery, I'd have accepted my hip playing 'The Star Spangled Banner' if it meant no pain. Guest guest
Clunking is just a movement, not really audible. For me it's very infrequent and is more like a very short slipping feeling in the joint when it goes from non-load bearing to load bearing. It's squishing out bodily fluids between the 2 halves of the joint before they come in contact with each other. The tighter and stronger the hip capsule, the less frequent and less noticeable it is. I don't have it during sports, perhaps because the hips are typically always loaded. > Hey Post-op hippies... > > There's fairly regular posting traffic on the " clunking " in the newly > device. Guest guest
It's pretty much a standard feeling. Haven't heard it yet, so using it as conversation piece is probably not going to happen. It used to bug me, until I realized that it means that you are using stuff that's been out of service for quite some time. If you stretch, it will abate. A new stretch will cause a few extra clunks for a day or two (hence folks get a bunch of this immediately post-op) and then no more. If I am really inactive for a few days I clunk more once I start moving. Jeff rBHR Aug. 1, 2001 Mr. McMinn ============= " To study and not think is a waste. To think and not study is dangerous. Guest guest
What funny stories, descriptions you all have of the clunking phenomenon. Cracks me up. I almost never clunk anymore, but I surely did when I was initially post-op. I wanted to write, then, about the time when I most frequently experienced it, but modesty prevented that. Think " Throne. Guest guest
<< Mine seems to clunk at some point during most days, usually when I'm bending down to pick something off the floor. The clunk isn't a sound and it doesn't feel like the joint is moving, but I know something happened. >> Mine too. . . when I bend at the hip to touch thew floor Alyce
