Hi Jo,

About the ankle sore under the air cast... Have you tried placing a

DuoDerm or TegaDerm hydrocolloid bandaid on that spot? I would try

putting on a quite large piece, not just where the sore develops, but

also a bit around that. Then the bandaid will act as a second skin,

also allowing the sore (if you have one now) heal. You could also use

the thick version of the bandaid, since that has extra padding on it,

it has a layer of foam on top... If needed, fasten the bandaid with a

layer of tape or whatever works best for you when you e.g. need to

fasten a compress on your skin...

Might be worth a try... Sores from orthotics are so uncomfy and annoying!!!!

Good luck!!! Hope you get some rest soon!!!

Aase Marit :)

Thank Jill and Lana for your very sweet comments - tell me when do

you get your guide dogs? ;-)

Aase, thanks for your suggestions - my biggest problems are that I

am incredibly bony so my mallelous sticks out more than it should,

and of course like any good mutant I am also incredibly allergic to

dressings and tapes! This has made our options for solving the

rubbing and sore very limited, I actually spent two hours in the

hospital tonight with my ER pals Steve and trying to figure

out a solution. We even got the Ortho nurses and interns involved,

and they were stumped too. We eventually padded it up with anything

we could think of for the night in the hope it may settle, but it's

actually getting worse now developing a blister on the ankle.

The staff are very worried about me getting ulcers on top of

everything else, so in spite of our best efforts to avoid it...I

will probably have to go back in tomorrow and have a walking plaster

fitted. I'll let you know if we come up with any other miraculous

solutions before hand though! lol

Thanks again for your comments and suggestions! Thinking of you all.

Love and hugs....Jo

Jo - did the ER staff try wrapping it with the " cotton " sheets they put over

your arm when you get a plaster cast put on? What about the " sleeve " they put on

first? Sorry to hear about the ankle sore....bummer! And being allergic to

adhesives...

Hi Bonnie, yep..tried all the cottons wraps and sleeves etc, nothing

stops it form rubbing though. We're all really bemused by it as

there isn't really anything obvious to be rubbing on my ankle, yet

I'm dveloping this nasty sore. Very strange!

Thanks for your thoughts darl, hope you and are both well.

Sorry Jo, but you're no mutant! If anyone is looking at you 'funny'

its only because they are terribly jealous of your stunning eyes and

beautiful hair! The ortho junk is just background noise in the

photo.

If you have to go to a plaster etc... is there anyway they can make a

fiberglass removable cast with a section cut out of it around the

rubbing area? I don't know what they could do about the area around

the cut out part to make it easier on that skin but maybe a cut out

portion would work.

More ((((HUGS)))) Jo. It's bad enough to have to put up with joint

issues but to have problems with the ortho junk that's suppose to

heal it must be incredibly frusterating. I hope they can figure out

something better for you!

Oh bless you Rhea, thank you for your coomenst and thoughts! I still

think I look completely spaced in that photo though! LOL

My ankle is still causing problems I'm afraid, over night in spite

of the extra padding it has continued to rub, on both sides now

though! I will have a sohower and examine the damage properly, then

probably head back up to the ER to talk with , Steve or

about things again - and most likley end up in the dreaded plaster

cast. Not what I want but I just can't risk the ulcers.

Thanks for thinking of me again. Know that you're all in my thoughts

and prayers too.

Love and hugs....Jo
