Guest guest
, Thank you for Dr. Gross's excellent web site. Everybody should look at this one. I especially enjoyed the graphic explanation of hip resurfacing. There is a lot more there for me to learn from. Ted Re: Dr. Gross Hi, MK, Look at Dr. Gross's website, grossortho.com. You'll find contact info and a great deal of info on resurfacing and MonM hips, etc. I think I'm the most recent of Dr. G's patients on the site, having had my left hip done May 26. I think you'll find many happy customers; Dr. Gross is one of the most experienced resurf docs, and he and his nurse/assistant, Lee Webb, are incredible at answering questions and concerns. Sometimes when I email a question, I feel like the answer is already on its way before pressing " send. " Good luck with your decision and let us all know how we can help. c2k 5/26/04 > Hi all, > > I am wondering if anybody is familiar with Dr. Gross and his > work with resurfacings? > > Does anyone have contact infor on Dr. Gross? > > Thanks, > > still confused. > > MK
Guest guest
Hi! I'm sure you've probably already checked out Dr. Gross' site. I am also a " Gross " patient. I had my resurf a year ago, almost to the day. He is an excellent surgeon and has a wonderful bedside manner. He will talk with you until you have all your answers. He does not make you feel rushed in the least (which is a rarity these days, let me tell you!) His assistant, Lee Webb, is an angel. She gives you her pager number and instructs you to call her ANYTIME there is a problem or you have a question or concern. I used it a time or two in the beginning! It is almost an instant response. Resurfacing is a wonderful procedure. I just got off the courts after playing a singles tennis match. (lost it, darn it!) The hip gave me no problem whatsoever at any time. The extra 40 lbs I put on during my year of inactivity due to my hip pain DID cause problems though!! I can chalk it up to THAT anyway. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it!! LOL) If you need references for Dr Gross, his staff, or the procedure, you can put me on that list!!! Gross 6/12/03 RHR C2K
Guest guest
MK: Another happy customer of Dr. Gross here. I had my right hip resurfaced in late March. My hip problems were the result of Legg-Calve-Perthes disease I had as a child. Dr. Gross is extremely nice and very willing to talk at length about your concerns. Lee Webb, his nurse and surgical assistant is a bundle of energy - when I first contacted her she gave me her e-mail address, her cell phone number, her pager number and her office number and told me to call anytime. I have contacted her a few times and always have gotten responses very quickly. Some potential differences I found between Dr. Gross and what I have heard some other surgeons do: - I had no stitches or staples. My incision was held together with tape strips and I believe some form of adhesive. The scar is about 6 inches long and very thin. - The hospital provided me with waterproof bandages (Tegaderm Plus) so I could shower after surgery. Some Doctors will ask you not to shower until staples/sutures are removed. - Dr. Gross used a pain pump that injected local anesthetic directly into the site of the surgery. This was strapped to my side for two days after surgery. This kept pain to a minimum. - Dr. Gross used a Polar Care cold pack - this strapped to my upper thigh and around my butt - it's a plastic pad with a pump that circulates ice cold water through it. It keeps pain and swelling to a minimum. - In my case, Dr. Gross told me to regulate weight bearing upon release from the hospital - he told me if it starts to hurt - take it easy but it was up to me when to progress from two crutches to one crutch to a cane and to using no assistance. I think being able to be more active has helped me to recover more quickly. - Dr. Gross used a posterier surgical surgical approach - my scar is on my butt (excuse my language, please). This has been a minor problem because, post operatively, sitting has been a bit of a pain in the . . . well, you know. Also, it is very important, when this approach is used, to limit bending over until the muscles have recovered. This results in a restriction to not bend beyond 90 degrees for at least 6 weeks. As I recall from a conversation with Dr. Mont, he uses a different technique where he comes in more from the front (Mont patients feel free to chime in). Mont's technique makes dislocation from bending over less of a risk in the sort term. Overall - pain management was excellent. Lee and Dr. Gross have been very accessible and responded quite quicly. The hospital was clean and the head nurse on the ortho wing, Charlie, was fantastic. The food was even good there (really, quite good). Obviously I a very satisfied patient!
