Oh !

Morphine and alcohol do NOT mix.

Just my opinion but I would NOT do both.

You just don't know what it will do. The combination could be horrible for

you. or not. but you just don't know.

Everyone is different about withdrawal. Personally I have very little

reaction to going on and off opiates but I have heard others that have had

really bad reactions cold turkey. Have you ever d/c the morphine before?

Drinking and medications

Okay, well my parents are going out of town for a week and on

saturday I am throwing a small party at my place. Just me and about

4 other friends. After the summer I have had I want to drink. I

just want a night were I feel normal and fit in. I cant drink when

my parents are home due to circumstances but I am allowed to drink

at home while they are gone. My question is about drinking and the

medications I am on. I am on:

10am

^^^^

Celexa 30mg

MS Contin 30mg

10pm

^^^^

Amitryptline 25mg

MS Contin 30mg

Should I skip some doses and if so which ones? I dont want things

to react but I also dont want to experience withdrawl symtpoms.

Anyone have any suggestions?

no drinking for you, period. you can't go off these meds just to drink

either, you would need several days clearance to have them out of your

system, so you would be a wreck without those I am sure.

Please Stacey, a drink if the last thing you need, the results will not be

pleasant.

I don't know about the other meds but I do take Celexa (20mg) and I can

safely drink alcohol with that. Hope this helps and have a fun time.

Stacey,

I will second what Jill and others have said. These are not medications you

should be mixing with alcohol. You should also NEVER adjust your dose of

medications without consulting your doctor.

Some info from Rxlist.com about this drugs

Celexa - " Don't stop taking this medicine until you have consulted with your

doctor first. "

MS Contin - " Alcohol can have added side effects, such as, drowsiness and

mental clouding. "

Amitryptline - " This medicine may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Alcoholic

beverages can increase the side effects of this medicine and should be

avoided. "

If you really want to drink, talk to your doctor about going off the drugs.

If you can find non-drug methods for pain relief, THEN you can indulge in a

little alcohol now and then. Alcohol and drug interactions are nothing to

take lightly.

Stacey, hun, I really have to agree with everyone. MS Contin is a

nasty drug in itself, and its side effects and withdrawl symptoms are

unimaginable. At least, for my body they sure were. It can take

weeks to get the last traces of that drug out of your system. I

won't even go into the other drugs! And since you've already been

experiencing depressed breathing, and are battling a UTI its likely

best to give your body a rest to adjust to your med dosage, and

recover from the UTI. Alcohol combined with the meds you are on can

make your breathing dangerously shallow, and you've already had

problems with the MS Contin and breathing.

To drink alcohol because you 'need' it after a hard summer is no good

reason to drink it. Things can always get tougher, and its better to

have a positive coping mechanism well established then to throw

alcohol into the mix.

If you are concerned about serving alcohol, not being able to drink

it yourself and missing out on the fun, why not leave it out all

together? You can have an awesome time and feel 'normal' with your

friends doing other things that don't involve alcohol. And that way

you can better ensure that your 4 guests are safe and able to think

clearly and rationally.

My drink of choice at parties where I can't have alcohol: mix OJ and

sparkling mineral water (about equal parts of each, maybe a tad more

OJ than water) and a dash of grenadine. Yummy!! Virgin strawberry

margaritas are also tasty!
