Guest guest
My opinion is that is your best option. That's exactly the instruction I gave my surgeon. Guest guest
Hi I understand the the range of motion and risk of dislocation should be about the same with a large head M-o-M THR and a BHR. So I guess that would be a good second choice. It's nice to know it's there as a backup should my BHR fail. I don't think the large head varieties are made in ceramics (someone will correct me if wrong!). Hope this helps Kathy LBHR Mr Treacy 2002 > My tiny brain cell is working over time right now to > absorb all of this information, can I just check that > if I cant have a BHR and need a THR then I should have > a Metal on Metal one? Guest guest
Liney, The Medical BFH (Big Femoral Head), if available to your OS would be the closest THR device to resurfacing. Cormet may also have a large femoral head device that is similar in size (but it is not approved here in the US). Talk to your OS or to his assistant and see which ones are available and make sure they know that you want it to be as large as will work for you. Good luck, Fred Dr. Gross, C2K 1/21/04 > My tiny brain cell is working over time right now to > absorb all of this information, can I just check that > if I cant have a BHR and need a THR then I should have > a Metal on Metal one? Guest guest
Kathy: I believe that is correct and due to the requirement that the acetabular shell must be thicker in the C-on-C because of the different characteristics of the material (strength and toughness). That leaves less room for a large femoral ball.
