Hi All,

I haven't posted here much but have read most of yours and they have helped

me greatly.

Just thought I would write in to say thanks to all and especially to Edith.

I am going under the knife tomorrow and feel very relaxed about it all,

compared to a few months ago when I made the initial decision to have the

BHR.

If you have any doubt an upcoming op I can assure you it dissapears as the

big day gets closer. Try spending two weeks off your anti-inflamatories (as

you must before the op) and you'll see!

Catch up with you next week with my new right hip. (Hope the surgeon does

the correct side!)

regards

Behnam,

I had both hips operated at once (simultaneous bilateral resurfacing) with

Dr. Koen DeSmet in Ghent, Belgium on July 2, 2002.

Not that many people had done simultaneous bilaterals prior to me but I think

many others have done so since. I know that DeSmet is not afraid to do them

if the patient is in good physical shape. I was a fit 50 yr. old at the time.

My surgery and result has been fantastic. I am able to lead a very active

lifestyle and play tournament single tennis again.

I am also happy I did the operations at one time. One surgery, one

anesthetic, and one recovery instead of two. As Dr DeSmet said, " Better to

suffer only

once. "

In my case, I never felt that I " suffered " since the whole experience of

being restored was wonderful and magical. Naturally, the first 48 hrs. after

surgery is a little difficult but overall it went very well.

My only regret about not having two separate operations was that I couldn't

repeat the great experience with everyone at Ghent.

Feel free to contact me if you have more questions. Please put my name in the

subject so that I know the question is for me, since it is hard to read all

the postings.

Several surgeons in Europe and the US do bilateral resurfacings.

I'm having a bilateral in Los Angeles on April 20.

No, she means she had her left hip done 11 months after her right hip.
