Guest guest
I used to fence before my MVA back on 2/14/97. I was 18 at the time. Despite my hip injury and resurfacement I coached and directed fencing in the midwest until I came back to the Seattle area in Feb. of 2001. It was around then that the pain just got too severe. I haven't picked up a foil or epee since. I would LOVE to hear from some people that had the resurfacement and returned to fencing (or any other sport that was their passion). I've been told for years by at least 6 different orthopods (and my GP) that I'll never be able to fence again. I completely gave up the idea, but you folks have given me renewed hope... Guest guest
Hi I haven't looked at the Surface Hippy site in awhile, but saw your post as I had some time this Easter. Yes, I used to fence (and coach) in northern California but also had to give it up when the pain got too intense. I received a new lease on life on Feb. 4 of this year in Belgium when De Smet resurfaced my left hip. One of my questions for him related to getting back to fencing. He said there would be no problem with me returning to the piste once I felt good enough to do so. I am still getting my muscles back into shape and will be for the foreseeable future but eventually will pick up the epee when my legs can handle the intensity of the sport. Maybe we'll meet on the strip someday? Best of luck to you, > I used to fence before my MVA back on 2/14/97.
