Guest guest
Yes, as Terry's email message hinted, had her babies. She gave me the thumbs up on notifying the list, so here goes!! The babies were born Sunday night by c-section. had planned to have a c-section on the 20th, but her water broke Sunday and she went to the hospital. Of course, her husband was out of town and he arrived just as they were pulling out Arthur, the second of the two babies. Eleanor weighed in at 4 lbs 10 oz, and Arthur at 5 lbs, 14 oz. is doing great. She's working tirelessly now at breastfeeding, as the babies are small enough that they're having some difficulty nursing. To that end, Arthur is in ICU; Eleanor is with in her room. Interestingly for those of us following autoimmune and child-bearing issues, these babies had the same problems with their placentas that 's older son, Tavis, had. The placentas were already in a state of deterioration (calcification and other things -- they're running a pathology test) when the babies were born. It was a good thing her water broke, as the placentas could have continued to decline. All in all, both babies and are doing fine. Even though Arthur's in ICU, he's in good shape, as is Eleanor, and , and the plan is for all three to go home on Thursday. 's spirits are good, although she's spending most of her time working on getting the two babies to breastfeed. wanted everyone to know --and it may be a few more days before she's back on-line!! Hooray! B

Good to hear she and the babies are doing so well. If I had only known years ago that my reproductive trouble carrying to term was autoimmune related. Perhaps my son wouldn't be an only child today. But one stillbirth at 33.5 weeks and then almost losing my second son in childbirth was all I could handle emotionally. Makes 's babies that much more special. This year in March will be my first son's 10th birthday. I can't believe it's been 10 years since he disappeared before I even knew him. in MA, USA Diagnosed w/Graves, March 1997 So far refusing RAI Treatment and Surgery!!! Off Meds Since June 2000 Surpressed TSH and somehwat normal thyroid levels Waiting on labs taken 10/21/02.

Guest guest
" The placentas were already in a state of deterioration (calcification and other things -- they're running a pathology test) when the babies were born. " My daughter was born a month early, and I was told the placenta had signs of calcification. That was two years ago, and I was diagnosed with Graves in August 2002. Looking back, I think I was definitely experiencing some hyper symptoms after her birth: I dropped weight like mad, couldn't sleep, had some heart palpitations, etc. Then I seemed to stabilize--for a while anyway. I wonder if Graves was creeping up on me even then. Question: As I consider a second child, will being on PTU (I'm on Tap now) help prevent the placenta problems? M. Good question, . I would imagine that being on PTU would help? However, I don't know fo rsure. Also, isn't hyperthyroid by any means -- she's been mildly hypo throughout her pregnancy. I think the issue and question may be immunity issues that go along with Graves/Hashi's that we are barely beginning to understand. Counting -- and now you and -- that's three women on the list who've had problems with placentas. I don't know if this is statistically significant, or what we might to expect to find in the general population? B
Guest guest
, I'm so happy for you! I've been off the list for a while and was just thinking about you and the babies when I signed on and saw that they've made their much anticipated world debut. I'm thrilled that everything worked out well and wish you much peace and happiness. Take care, Tori
