No Nonnie, I have been off chemo since March. I just had the operation to

reverse the colostomy on June 9th and the doc says it takes from a short time to

as long as 3 years before the bowel gets to working right again.

Ugh. Thanks for writing.

Hi friends,

I had a tough day running out to the doctors - everything ok but the bowels

went berserk on me twice, once in my therapist's office and the next in a

Verizon store...I just had to run out of the store.

I don't know what I would do without these Depends but it sure is awful. I

literally had to strip and wash my slacks in the stupid little sink and then

put them on wet. Gawd!!!!!

I don't know what to do. All I had for breakfast was toast and a cup of

tea. It seems like mostly I eat toast.

I haven't had fruits or veggies in I don't remember when and this can't be

good for us.

I see folks who write that they take metamucil three times a day and

immodium three times a day. That seems extreme.

This is the " right away " when I have to go; it is like the fourth or fifth

time and then it's over.

I don't know what to do. I am so sorry for such a descriptive note but I

need some encouragement and.....

Welcome to my world:(

Been living like this for over a year now. Sorry to sound so defeated but today

has been a terrible day.

I want so badly to get to the WalMart and get my granddaughter a birthday gift

for Friday. Last two days I've tried so hard....get up, shower, nothing to eat,

BAM!...same ol' stuff. And this is with taking opium twice a day!

Maybe I should try smoking it instead??? At least maybe I wouldn't care????

Believe me, Immodium three times a day is not extreme. Are you taking it at all?

It doesn't work for me, but maybe it will for you?

Karima, I feel so bad for you. That has to be so embarrasssing. Have

you talked at all to the doctors about this? And you did not eat

anything to cause this and yet it still is happening. I am Praying

for you!!!! Hopefully you will get some answers some how and get the

relief you so much need.

My bowel problems seem to be getting somewhat better but still do

not want to get to far away from the the bathroom. I get no warning

just the sudden urge. OH what we are enduring!!!!! I hope it gets

better for you!!!! Ingrid

What does you doc say ?

I don't take Immodium everyday but I will take it in the morning if this

continues. I have lomotil but I know that is addictive so I don't like to take

it. How about the metamucil wafers??

I have really learned I cannot eat anything after 8:00 PM. If I get to

starving, I eat dry toast.

Stay in touch.

I was told after my resect it would be 1 1/2 to 2 years before things were

normal. I guess they were not talking about the striture problem but the more I

have thought about it the more I think they did know about it at the time. Since

the one who tried to do colonoscopy over a year ago I have not been able to eat

fresh fruits, fresh veggies, whole grains and a list of things. It is a horrible

diet especially being a diabetic. Actually when I went to Dr yesterday and

answered his question of my bowel hablits he asked three times thinking I did

not understand the question I guess. My answer was 10-20 times a day for days

then 2 or 3 days nothing. I then start horrible cramping and have to get

something to get things started. I can not take a laxative of any kind except

like a tablespoon of MOM. This sounds crazy but a couple cups of cappichino

seems to help things. I am not a coffee drinker and don't believe what you read

that tea prevents colon cancer or I would not have it. I drink tea all day long.

I actually have been housebound for about 2 yrs because of all this. To be sure

I could make it to my Dr appt yesterday I took two immodium at bedtime and two

yesterday morning. Did not eat. It was ok till I got home and it all started. I

assume since they can't clean me out is why they are going from the inside of

the colon to get the striture out. I did not get a phone call with a appt today

so did not get to ask questions but think I am putting things together. My

daughter is sure the Dr told her on phone endoscopic. I can't believe they are

going from my throat to my ass in plain English. Terrible but I am ready to do

anything to get normal. Of course then have no idea what they are going to do

about the cancer and what will start again. I think they want to get in my colon

to actually see what is going on in there but I know this mass is right outside

my colon.

I wish I could offer some good suggestions but I have not found one. Of course I

do know what my problem is and think it can be corrected. It is just that every

time I mentioned it to the colon surgeon he paid no attention. This oncologist

yesterday seemed to pay quick attention to solving it.

I have alot of evasive doctors. None seem to want to make a statement of any

kind.

One told me it could take a year, one told me I'd be this way the rest of my

life, however long that may be (wasn't that just sweet of him?). My local doctor

is the most supportive. I see him again next Wednesday. So far we haven't tried

much of anything except exercise, trying to get some muscle mass back again in

my legs.

He now has my records, so I think it is time to get started on figuring

something out.

I am sorry if I sounded snippy in my reply to you earlier, I sure didn't mean it

that way. I just get so dishearted. The last thing a cancer survivor wants to

hear is that something is going to take time. time is precious. I want to use it

NOW....not wait!!! Good grief:)

Believe it or not, something that does seem to " stick " are eggs over easy.

Figure that one out???? As a matter of fact, I'm getting ready to fix two right

now. My days and nights are mixed up again. So I may as well go ahead and eat

breakfast!hahaha

Most times when I go to a Dr they want to do blood work and without thinking ask

if I ate. I have to tell them no then get a lecture because I am diabetic. Only

thing is if I ate I would not be able to get to the appts:)

I think with your recent removal there is a very good chance things will get

back to working normal soon. It does take our bodies time to adjust.

every time i have colon surgery it has taken me a while to get away from the

diarrhea. In fact the alst surgery I had was in January and now its just

starting to be a bit more normal although sometimes its diarrhea but now

more softer and formed. I seem to have very regular bowel habits now ...

get up get the newspaper and go to the bathroom. Sometimes after I eat as

well but it is now manageable. I hope it gets there for you.

, I know what you mean about time being precious. The lung

surgeon told me last Tuesday that it could take up two six months

before my ribs stop hurting. All I could think of was it was a big

long chunk out of my life for all this healing process to take place.

And of course I suspect my husband and son are getting tired of

having to do my routine chores. I feel so bad for my 13 year old son.

He has got to do so many chores that I used to do during the day.

This child should be out having fun and not having to help me so

much. Today I feel a little better for now. But as the day goes on I

get so tired. Am so sick of hurting in my ribs. It limits me way too

much. My nights are full of broken sleep. And keep thinking what the

reoccurant tumor means for me. i try not to think aobut it but the

thoughts are there. Ingrid

Wednesday. So far we haven't tried much of anything except exercise,

trying to get some muscle mass back again in my legs.

figuring something out.

didn't mean it that way. I just get so dishearted. The last thing a

cancer survivor wants to hear is that something is going to take

time. time is precious. I want to use it NOW....not wait!!! Good

grief:)

over easy. Figure that one out???? As a matter of fact, I'm getting

ready to fix two right now. My days and nights are mixed up again. So

I may as well go ahead and eat breakfast!hahaha

Karima, You know you could be right. Stress could have a lot to do

with this. I know stress does me in with the bowels. Never thought of

that till you mentioned it. Yes, It could have a lot to do with what

is hppening to you. Ingrid

> Yes, it is embarassing. My therapist is such a wonderful gal. She

already took care of me when I had a burst bag and now this. I am

getting pretty much afraid to eat anything. No this morning I ate

dry toast. The doctor still says eat what you want and just watch.

moving and selling the house and the awful trouble with my daughters

has something to do with this.

> Love you. You are the best you know. We can always count on you

to be answering posts. Bless you.
