Tori,

I have an article published in the May 1995 Public Health Reports entitled

" Survey of

Exposure to Violence Among the Children of Migrant and Seasonal Farm Workers " in

the library

here and would be happy to send you a copy. (Please send your physical address

to me a

mckay@..., as I don't have an electronic copy of this article available.)

You also

might want to touch base with (rarodri1@...) who

is an

expert on domestic violence and farmworkers.

I'll continue searching our library and send you any additional articles I find

as a

result. Good luck, and keep us posted.

This is all good for me to read since I have been e-mailing Dr.

Goldberg that my son has had much anxiety and OCD like behaviors in

the past few weeks. This is so disappointing since we had been doing

so well. After reading all of your posts, I looked back to see what

changed and realized we have added Tenex. Has anyone found that

Tenex caused these problems? Also, we do know our son's viral titers

for HHV6 and CMV have climbed the last month which had me totally

confused since for the first four months of treatment they steadily

went down and along with it, we saw a much improved son.

Tenex could cause problems in some kids for sure. It's really helped my son's

hyperactivity. I'm wondering, though, if it might be why my youngest has

suddenly started displaying a lot of anger and lashing out verbally. Regarding

the climb in viral titers, I have experienced this with myself and all three of

my children. Usually, a switch in antivirals works. Something to talk about with

Dr. G.

All the best,

Robyn

Hi Colleen,

Tenex got my son's OCD under control, but it had to be the white

only. Any food red/pink dyes cause anxiety and crankyness!

He's been taking Tenex (guanfacine) for years now.

I hope this helps!

I think I posted that dye in the tenex can cause a problem.

My son was doing really well with his titers, then they hit the roof

(10,000+:1) for a while. He became sensitive to some foods that he had

previously been fine with. I worked closely with Dr. G and it took several

months - all the while my son would make gains, then get sick.it was like 2

steps forward, 1 back - but his titers have been really low the last year or

so. He's doing really well, knock on wood, and 85% or so recovered. Hang in

there! He's been a patient of Dr. G for over 4 years.

He'd need to be evaluated for it. I think psychologists or psychiatrists

are usually the ones to do this but a developmental pediatrician may be

able to as well.

One of my son's biggest challenges remains hyperactivity.

When I hear about something that has helped hyperactivity~ I am very

interested!

Is this part of Dr. G's protocol?

We to have experience aggression issue over the last few weeks. It is

interesting that so many parents are seeing this in March. I do not know where

all of these kids live but has anyone considered environmental allergies. I had

a sister with huge allergy problems and if I remember correctly March was the

worst month due to the change in seasons and all of the rain. Could the wet

weather be causing mold issues in the air?

Bill, I think you hit the nail on the head. Right now Tree Pollens are coming

out. And for some people its just a nuisance but for our kids with immune

dysfunction it can make a huge difference in their behavior. Sometimes

antihistamines work sometimes they don't (they made my child worse)

Nasal inhibitors do work. We started wit Flonaise and nasalchrom. Now just

nasalchrom. As I understand it (nasalchrom) does not enter the system just block

the reaction at the point of contact

I have a three year old (only 24 #) that gets 3 divided teaspoons (1 tsp each)

three times daily of Loratidine. He takes it for mastocytosis, but a strange

side effect is cessation of sleep myoclonus and improvement in speech.

I have not read through this whole thread, but gauging from the title, I am

wondering if someone has posed the question of H1 Antihistamines causing

violence. Although it is possible, it is more likely that the medicine would

have the opposite effect. But anything is possible. 1/4 tab of zyrtec is a very

small dose that most likely won't affect anything, even allergies.

>

> My son is almost 8, weighs about 48 pounds and gets/has gotten 1/4 Zyrtec tab

at bedtime for a couple of years (maybe most of the time he’s been a patient

of Dr. G? 4 years +). He has also had periods of several months where he gets a

nasal spray, too, like Nasonex, also at bedtime. We’re in Southern California

where stuff blooms year round.
