My son Dan is 18 and an excellent driver but he has to take and pass the

test. Ride around with them even if you are not teaching them. It is scary at

first but you get over it

Well Nate is doing okay. He has only made me scream once in fear of him hitting

a car because they always seem to veer to the right. The more they do it the

better they get.

After dealing with all the scenario's of Janet's illness of which we have

survived now we pace ourselves with dealing with a 16 year old son learning to

drive, the fear of teenage pregnancies because I have a good idea what he and

his girlfreind are doing(and yes we have spoken often about sex education) and a

daughter that is reaching puberty herself.

Life goes on,

these are precious moments

Enjoy them as well,

Ingrid....our little worry-wart Mommy!!!

Seriously, this is a very nerve-wracking time...when children are old enough

to learn to drive. They do need a very good teacher...and if you'll be too

nervous, then it's a good idea to get Driver's Ed. Training. They use to

have it in the schools here, but now we have to pay for it. But, it's worth it

to know they've been taught all they need to know for all the different

circumstances they might find themselves in.

Ingrid, once again, we have very little control....once they are

knowledgeable enough, we just have to let go...and pray!!!

Very precious....and all too soon done and over with...sitting in an empty

house!!

My struggle with raising 3 boys alone was a really hard time in my life....

I can actually say, I never " suffered " from the Empty Nest Syndrome. I have

recently, though, looked at my grandchildren in awe...trying to remember the

days when my sons were their ages....how come having grandchildren is soooo

much more fun than raising your own??? I should have had grandchildren

first!!! LOL

Some times children, at 16, are NOT mature enough to be driving; the best

idea would be to wait til they are 18. But you're son is only 13, right

Ingrid?? He still has 3 yrs. to mature and gain responsibility and the knack

for

good decisions and good judgement.

ingrid why would you even want to attempt to teach your 13 year old to

drive. Ever think he may take a vehicle behind your back when you are not

actively supervising him. It may not be the smartest thing you could do

with him cause kids his age are always cocky and always sure of themselves

when in reality they make totally immature decisions. You could be opening

a big can of worms. He is not legally allowed to drive at 13 and I sure as

heck wouldn't risk this.

Yes, we are nervous, but each time we go out, he improves. It is his next step,

Yes, we are nervous, but each time we go out, he improves. It is his next step,

Thank YOU Larry!!!! By the way, when you guys come for a visit and I

work with your kids with the horses, would you work with my son and

show him how to drive??? I know he is only thirteen but he can learn

some now. I am terrified with the idea of showing him how to drive. I

guess I do not have the nerves of giving a heavy vehicle over into

his hands and then I have no control to stop the car. Are you not

nervous with the idea that Nate will soon be handling such a big

vehichle and going places that you have no control of??? Ingrid

that makes him nervous too, so it is better to bite my lip, hard though it is.
