Guest guest
Hi Clair, I was seeing an acupunturist while on ptu, and felt great. I had seen him initially to work with the PTU and things were great until he moved back upstate. He said I actually made him think and use his brain, because he was doing mainly pain management. I was feeling rested and peaceful afterwards,I just wish I could have used him longer. Any way, I was under the assumption that it would be alright to combine eastern/western/holistic medicine as long as all partys are on the same page as far as what your meds are and for what etc... I wish you well and good luck. Luci As many of you know my husband and I are dealing with infertility. As part of our treatment, we have decided to look into acupuncture and holistic medicine. The results are encouraging and we are meeting with someone for a consultation this weekend. We do plan to pursue this either alone or in conjunction with western medicine. My question is whether or not I should be concerned about my thyroid. I just posted my labs. My doctor has told me to contine on 150mg of PTU per day for 4 more weeks. I am worried acupuncture might interfere negatively with my Graves treatment somehow. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks, Clair Luci " If it's wet and not your's,dont touch it! Guest guest
LOL! That's how my husband sees practice, he will do pain management, but loves to work on " difficult " stuff that he can use his brain on. Guest guest
Hi Ellen, My son did acupuncture for pain before his transplant. He started the treatment while he was in the hospital under his hepatologist’s care and It worked great during the session and then for a few hours after, but unfortunately the pain returned. We would have needed the acupuncturist to move in with us for it to have been a successful treatment…that was not an option. We tried this route when drugs just were not working. After many drugs and acupuncture the only thing that worked for pain was methadone. This was controlled by a very good and experienced pain medicine doctor. Together in the fight…Whatever it Takes!!! Joanne (mom of Todd, 22, PSC 01, Crohns 02, TX Twice 03, rPSC 05, Diabetes 06, AIH overlap 08 & living life to the fullest 09) Anyone in the group tried acupuncture to ease pain, night sweats or any other of the fun things that result from PSC? Just wondering about this option, is it safe? Thanks! Ellen

Guest guest
Hi Ellen, I go to an acupuncturist who has helped me with sleep disturbances, night sweats and light nausea. It is safe as long as you find a well trained acupuncturist and also as long as the needles have all been sterilized and are only used once.
