Guest guest
Hi Pat ....on a dank grey morning here in the Uk just read the posts..Your Thyroid readings ARE WRONG...(would be surprised to hear of a neuro.that can interpret them) You are quoting Total T's....You need to get done the FT4/FT3/TSH, the free's are the unbound available for use figures.plus the lab reference ranges....The mitochondria require a constant supply of T3/T4 to function ..yours are not getting enough..that may possibly account for your cortisol elevations as the body struggles to compensate...All your TSH readings SCREAM HYPOTHYROID..please help my body fast.. Your sleep pattern also points to hypo...with disturbed adrenal function. This may settle down once you start treatment..hypo can make you sleep 24/7 or wake /sleep/wake unrefreshed. An even better way of testing adrenals than random cortisol is to use Adrenal Salivary Testing over 24 hrs..think I remember someone saying you can order direct from a lab in the US. (we can here as well ) http://thyroid.about.com/ if you scroll down on the left and click forums you will be able to join and the folks there really do know about thyroids..the US board moves at an incredible rate..They will also be able to help you find a good endo who knows about thyroid in your area.N.B.lots of folks there and the UK board have other co- existing conditions but everyone is concerned with optimising thyroid function. http://thyroid.about.com/cs/hypothyroidism/a/checklist.htm http://thyroid.about.com/cs/basics_starthere/a/thyroid101.htm http://www.umm.edu/altmed/ConsConditions/Hypothyroidismcc.html http://www.emedicine.com/pmr/topic57.htm This last one is really good fun to do.I did it with my GP http://www.drrind.com/scorecardmatrix.asp It gave everyone basic clues and bio-chemical testing has so far shown I do have an adrenal problem as well as my hashi's etc as part of my mito.which I am now going to have further testing for. Adrenal Insufficiency is also documented as being found in Mito. If you want to know more about Adrenals and stress which may or maynot be thyroid or Mito. related read the work of Hans Seyle. Too many Docs do not go by what the patient says and take on board signs and symptoms..an untreated thyroid will make any mito. illness worse...got lots of PubMed stuff as well on the subject. Thyroid is also a genetically inherited disease and will affect all your organs etc..it obviously runs in your family Don't let the neuro. tell you the results stem from mito. They may or may not..the point is if you recieve correct treatment for it YOU WILL FEEL BETTER.. Now Ive had my morning 'rant' you can all groan again, Gillian > > Hi, I don't think too many of you know me. I'm one of the 'old > timers' on the list but I only pop in occasionally. When I popped in > today I happened on a discussion of thyroid, etc. I was just tested > last week for cortisol AM and PM and thyroid tests plus others. I am > so miserable today that I called the lab and asked them to fax the > results to me. I was hoping for a clue about the pain I'm having. > Well, I can see that some things are out of whack but I don't know > what they mean. I'm hoping someone here can help. My cortisol AM was > 17, PM was 24.5. The PM is supposed to be about one half of the AM. > TSH 2.72, my TSH varies with each test I've had. All the way from 2.0 > to 5.0, is this usual? I'm not taking thyroid. T3 144, T4 8.7. Also, > my sodium and carbon dioxide have been just below the usual level for > the past several years. My neurologis ordered the testing and I had > the results faxed to him but I don't think he had a chance to look at > them. Has any one else had results like this and if so, doe you think > they stem from Mito? Thanks all > Pat K
