Guest guest
Hi , How is Christian doing? I was wondering if you can give me some details about the tenotomy. Tommy will be getting his in two weeks in the office with a local anesthetic. Do they numb the area before they inject the local? How long did the whole thing take from start to end of casting? Where was it done? Can I stay in there with him? Is there a lot of blood? How was Christian on the ride home? I am asking all of this now because we are going to Dr. H on Friday and then continuing south to Myrtle Beach for a week then back up to Baltimore for the tenotomy the following Friday and then home. So I won't be around next week to panic and stress out. Tommy Lee 4/23/
Guest guest
Hi , Christian is doing great. He was so cranky after the tenotomy that I thought he was in pain but the pain seems to have stemmed from his teeth because he just popped one out and now he is fine. The whole thing, from start to finish, took place in the x-ray room. First, they numbed his heel with some cream and we had to wait about a ½ hour for that to start working. Then Dr. H came in and they took a “live action” x-ray before the procedure (which I have to say was pretty amazing). Anyway, after that it was just me, Carla and Dr. H. I held one leg and Carla held the rest of him on the table. Dr. H draped some sterile cloths over the bottom half and gave him a needle to numb the rest of the area. At that point, I couldn’t look anymore. The actual tenotomy lasted about 5 minutes. When I found the strength to look again he was already stitching it closed. They put a bandage on the wound and took another “live action” x-ray to compare before and after. It was unbelievable how much more his foot could move afterwards. Then they casted him again and we were on our way. Dr. H said to expect to see the blood coming through the cast but not to worry unless it exceeded the size of a silver dollar and it didn’t. But it is a little scary when you see it coming through so quickly! Christian was exhausted from crying through the entire procedure so he slept almost the entire way home. The whole thing wasn’t nearly as traumatizing as I thought it would be for me and Christian both. Best of luck with Tommy! Let us know what happens and how things turn out when you get home.
