Lanie,

I personally think you are right to be concerned about your mom. At least maybe

talk her into going to her pcp or the ER and have lab work done. She is

probably dehydrated if she can't keep anything down and needs to be in the

hospital on IV.

Question...

I am not sure what to do. My mom has CP and has been vomiting for about a

week straight. She cannot keep anything down. She is going about her business

as usual and pretending nothing is wrong.

Am I being over protective thinking that this bout could kill her/severely

damage her or am I valid in my concerns? I want her to go to a doctor but she

dumped her gastro because he sucked and now won't find a new one. I just don't

know what to do? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Lanie

YOU can't do anything, Lanie. Your Mom has to learn to take care of herself.

She needs to see a doc ASAP. Her electrolytes are already screwed-up.

Don't take responsibility for someone who won't care for themselves. You

will end up frustrated and feeling guilty. Sorry, but people who foolishly

ignore their own health warning signs get no sympathy from me. Each of us

has to make a commitment to care about our own selves - no one can do that

for you.

Thank you Jerry. I know you are right. I am the one that holds the family

together. I have to do all I can to make sure she is ok or I couldn't live with

myself. I will do all I can, but the hard part is up to her. I think I got

thru a bit earlier. We will see what tomorrow brings.

Best wishes,

Lanie

Thanks , I just talked to her about it and told her she will end up in ER

before Christmas if she doesn't try harder to take care of herself.

Terri..Hi!

As a matter of fact I had a litany of grand mal seizures with my chiari.

This was actually how it was finally correctly diagnosed. Initially they

thought it was a " severe sinus infection " . Wrong! I actually had 3

seizures during my first MRI...not fun. They would haul me out...stabilize

me and start again!

If I can try to answer any questions about this, please ask!

Best wishes,

Hi everyone. I had surgery back on Jan. 28, 2003....so I'm about 11

months out. My question is how long did your surgeons tell you that

you should wait before you got pregnant? I am not pregnant right

now, but SO want another child. I've already lost 150lbs. I'm

below 200lbs for the first time in many many years. I'm still

losing. I'm drinking my protein drinks, taking my iron, calcium,

and ALL kinds of other vitamins that my surgeon requires us to take

following wls. Just wanting to know when is it " ok " to get pregnant?

Most surgeons suggest waiting until your weight stabilizes but at least a

year. I have heard many recommendations that have gone up to two years. So

basically you may want to talk to your surgeon and see what he/she

recommends. My surgeon said 1 year but I know BTC is currently telling

patients to wait 18 months.
