While at the conference, the rep for N-factor said that he then understood why and that it would mean re-thinking the entire recommendation. Guest guest Posted December 22, 2004 Report Share Posted December 22, 2004 Well, understanding a bit about biochemical reactions, I think that some of us who do well on CoQ10 may not do well on NADH, and vice versa. Namely, if CoQ10 and NADH are " raw ingredients " in the Complex I reaction, our bodies would tend to overcompensate by making more of the component that isn't missing. So if you're low on CoQ10, more NADH may make things worse if your body is already making sufficient (or even extra) NADH (and you lack the CoQ10 part of the equation). I seem to be the opposite, I do really poorly on CoQ10, I get severe insomnia (= no sleep, not even 10 minutes per day), jittery, no cessation or improvement of symptoms. It's been shown that I have no CoQ10 deficiency, although after I tried CoQ10 many times, unfortunately I don't think they test for a NADH deficiency. Interestingly, I started B100 complex, thought it was helping, then realized after a week that I was getting much worse, so had to stop it. I think it could be the same thing, if any of the B vitamins were deficient, the others might be " overproduced " , so I was essentially overdosing on the other B vitamins that my body has. NADH is a relative of niacin, but with some extra stuff attached. I wonder, have those who have had trouble with NADH also had trouble with niacin? I did decide to add an extra NADH dosage earlier in the day yesterday, and I did really well on it. We'll see how today goes. If I decide to change my supplements, I do it on days my schedule is light and there will be other people around in case there are any unforeseen issues. I don't celebrate the holidays traditionally, so it's not really a stressful time for me either. It's frustrating that I'm even different than the rest of you, when these disorders are already so rare. As ever, I'm not a doctor, this is my experience, and YMMV. It's funny to say " of course I don't recommend people changing their medication on their own " , but then again, regarding the meds regulated as supplements, the doctors have all but told me to do that (and it seems others have that impression as well, correct?) Another interesting thing is that, from what I've read here, the dosages of CoQ10 can range from 60 mg - 1,000 mg per day, whereas the NADH dosage is only 5 - 10 mg per day. I wonder why that is? Too bad the doctors can't figure out some tests to decide if we'll respond to supplement A or B or C... It was explained to me, that the NADH can make the body produce more of the damaged mito in some of us. That is what they think happened with me.
