Guest guest
H Brittney, Welcome to the group. My best advice would be to move to a regular carseat and not use the carrier. My son is almost 5 months and in the bar. He is long enough and his bar is short enough not to cause issues. We have decided that after the holiday we will be investing in the regular car seat because he is much too heavy in the carrier to be lugging around. Good luck, Dawn-Marie chbtrouble blboone@...> wrote: Hi everyone! I'm new to the group - my 2 month old son, Cameron, has bilateral club feet. We just got finished with casting for 8 weeks and he got his first pair of brace shoes. His transition has been pretty smooth, until we put him in his carrier/car seat. The brace between the shoes is wider than the carrier, so his feet sit on top of the sides of the carrier (does that make sense? ), so he's very fussy about being uncomfortable. We tried to prop him up higher in the carrier on a blanket, but that doesn't seem to help much. Did anyone have a problem like this? Any other tips for the brace shoes? Thanks, and I look forward to getting to know more of your stories and suggestions! All my best, Brittney
Guest guest
Brittney, Welcome!! And congrats on being done with casts. I would check the width of the bar and make sure it matches the width of his shoulders. If his shoulders fit just fine in the seat I would think the bar would too. My son, 14 months just got switched to a regular seat this past weekend. He fit in the rear infant car seat just fine with his bar and his casts. I would make sure the width is correct. At two months he is way too young to switch to a forward facing car seat, but maybe one of those convertible ones might work better for you. But we stayed in the rear infant for quite awhile, it was just so much easier to cart him around when you can't put him in the cart at grocery store or the high chairs. Hope this helps, > > > Hi everyone! I'm new to the group - my 2 month old son, Cameron, has > bilateral club feet. Guest guest
Hi Brittney.............Welcome to the group.....It's an awsome group........lots of info questions advice and alot of really nice people.Yes we had that problem but i was told never prop them up or interfere with the safety of the carseat it's a hard adjustment but give it awhile and you'll be suprised how quick he will adjust.some times you can prop something under his knees like a rolled up recieving blanket but i wouldn't put anything under his bum.I hope this helps Jen mom to 07-11-2004 dbb 16\7 DBB Newbie! Guest guest
Hi Brittney, Welcome to the group! Lucky for us we didn't have that problem with our little girl and her carrier, it was wide enough at the bottom. At 2 mos Cameron is probably not holding his head up enough to go in a regular carseat yet. I would put a thick blanket or 2 under his lower legs/brace to make it level with the sides so he is more comfy. Would be a shame to have to go and buy another carrier as he will probably only be in it for a few more months. We will be moving Grace into a regular rear facing carseat soon, she is not yet quite 5 months but is sooo heavy (20pds hehe) and so long now that she has pretty well outgrown it already! Glad to hear that he has adjusted to the brace so well, good for you guys! & Grace 07-21-04 Unilateral RCF DBB's 16 hrs > > Hi everyone! Guest guest
Brittney & Cameron, Welcome! You can try using a rolled up receiving blanket under his legs/ankles to lift the bar up higher than the plastic frame of the car seat. got her brace at age 5 months, and she still fit into her carrier with it, but maybe it was because her legs were a bit longer at that point. I did use the rolled up blanket/towel trick with her for a while I think (brain is a little fuzzy after 4 years!). The proper width of the brace can be checked if you hold it up to his back- the inside edges of the heels of the shoes should be at a distance equal to the width of his shoulders. You can see a picture of this at http://pages.ivillage.com/ponseti_links under the bracing section. Hope this helps! & (3-16-00) left clubfoot, switched to Ponseti method at 4 mo. old http://ponseticlubfoot.freeservers.com/ > > > Hi everyone!
