Guest guest
I completely agree with you. I would only allow the consultant to do the casting from this point forward. My son was in cast for a total of 3 months, his never fell off. His casts started at 2 days old. It is your baby and your final decision on who treats the foot. I would stand firm an not allow the associate to touch the feet with out the consultants hands right in the mix of things. dm julzdavidsonuk julzdavidsonuk@...> wrote: Hi, Ive got a 6week old daughter and she is being treated in the UK using the Ponsetti Method (Doctor is recommended Ponsetti one). She has talipes of her right foot. Her first two casts went very well and didnt fall off. However her last three since these have slipped completly off!! Yes she seams to slide her leg completely out! The casts are in perfect condition no rips or anything. One of the casts lasted about 27 hours! I put her to bed on an evening and when she woke in the early hours, I picked her up and changed her nappy only to find out the cast was missing!! I went back to her bed and it was lying in it. Im getting rather frustrated and worried, now as each time she is left several days without it on due to it being the weekend, christmas etc. The first two were done by the Consultant (these stayed on), Due to the consultant being on holiday, the other three were done by the person who works closely with him and is experienced in doing the casts. Im wondering am I doing something wrong? But my baby isnt that active as only 3weeks old when 1st one fell off! Could the other person be doing it wrong? However another child (older 9months) has been having them done and there cast never fell off. Am I being awkward if I insist she has no more unless the consultant assess's her foot and does the next ones? Has anyone got any experience of casts repeatidly falling off in such a young baby? Any help and advice appreciated. Starting to feel like her foot is never going to get corrected! Thanks Julzd and Aurora 6wks.

Guest guest
I never had experience with this at a young age but my sons cast constantly fell off when he was older with the same Ponseti doctor applying them.. Turned out that has Atypical bcf. Dr Herzenberg had to bend his legs 120 degrees instead of the typical 90 degrees for them to stay on and even then they didn't always. I would recommend sending pics to Dr. Ponseti to see if perhaps your childs foot is atypical.. Good Luck!

Guest guest
My son's casts kept falling off early on too. I believe it was partly because the doctor wasn't as experienced as he should have been in the ponseti method. But mostly I believe it was because my son has atypical bilateral cf. The doctor had never seen feet that simply didn't respond to his casting and wouldn't keep the casts on. we went to see Dr. Ponseti and found out he had atypical, which would result in lack of progress when treating like a normal clubfoot case. I don't know if that might be the case for you or not, but it might be worth it to send pictures to dr. p and talk to your consultant about the possibility of them being atypical. Hope this helps, > > Hi, > > Ive got a 6week old daughter and she is being treated in the UK > using the Ponsetti Method (Doctor is recommended Ponsetti one). Guest guest
My son's casts fell off constantly also. Sometimes after only a few horurs. It ended up that he has atypical clubfoot and needed to be treated by a very experienced doctor. I would send some pictures to Dr. Ponseti. Are his feet very fat andn small? > > Hi, > > Ive got a 6week old daughter and she is being treated in the UK > using the Ponsetti Method (Doctor is recommended Ponsetti one). Guest guest
Julzd, Three times is telling you that the casts are not being put on properly! Auora is only 6 weeks old, there is no way she should be able to wiggle/kick out of a properly applied cast!! If it were my child, I would insist that the Ponseti trained doctor apply the casts! Each time the cast comes off and she is without it for a couple of days, it is impeeding her progress, it's no wonder you are feeling frustrated, I would be totally pissed off! Remember you are your child's advocate and need to insist on the best possible care for her. Do not feel that you are being pushy - We in Canada like you in the UK sometimes have a hard time with getting the specific doctor etc etc that we want with our HC systems but be strong...I could see being a bit hesitant if the cast had come off once, but three times - you are totally justified in asking for more expert hands! & Grace 07-21-04 Unilateral RCF DBB 16 hrs > > Hi, > > Ive got a 6week old daughter and she is being treated in the UK > using the Ponsetti Method (Doctor is recommended Ponsetti one). Guest guest
Hi Julzd How frustrating for you. You have probably already thought of what I am about to say, but can you request someone else with more experience apply the cast. Surely the person filling in for your consultant is thinking what the **** is going on and welcome expert advice from a colleague with more experience. At least you have come to the right place and will be full of questions which I am sure will blow your doctor away - maybe Auora does have an atypical CF. Our baby's casts never came off. Do the casts finish up high on the thigh? I have read that casts applied just above the knee have a tendancy to come off. Hope you get this resolved sooner rather than later. Good luck Sharon giannasmommy2002 nannylulu@...> wrote: HER feet...sorry. > > > > Hi, > > > > Ive got a 6week old daughter and she is being treated in the UK > > using the Ponsetti Method (Doctor is recommended Ponsetti one). > She > > has talipes of her right foot. > > > > Her first two casts went very well and didnt fall off.
