Exema question

I'm curious, is exema seasonal? I remember when I was little the skin on

my fingertips would get dry and peel off. It was not fun because the skin

underneath was very sensitive. It happened every winter. I did grow out

of it. Now this is happening with my 4 year old starting in the past

couple of weeks. I didn't complain much about it when I was little, I

doubt my mom even knew it happened. But he's picking at his fingers and

just a bit ago picked it enough so the healthy skin was pulled off and it's

bleeding. I'm thinking just a lotion will help, and have been putting it

on his fingers but now I wonder if this is some form of exema? Or is it

just that he is sensitive to the change in weather and it's just dry

skin. Isn't it funny how some things get passed to your children and

others don't? My oldest has my fingernails, they come apart in layers and

my hangnails I used to get a lot as a kid. Merek has my peely finger

tips. Darbi... well, she's a girl. lol... so far I don't know what I

passed to her!

It can be seasonal. Everyone has a different thing that makes the ezcema

react or get worse. Even if, for example, the cold air caused the eczema to

come about, if it is during the time when the rash is in “remission” it

could hardly be noticed. It would just seem that the skin is slightly dry

not all cracked and bleeding etc. If you put some crème on your son

(Eucerin or Cetephil are the best over the counter stuff) and it goes away

fast and for a long time then it’s probably just a sensitivity. But if it

takes awhile and you have to keep putting the lotion on and on then it might

be some eczema coming about. Boy are you right about passing these things

on though. Each kid got his own thing..lol… got the Asthma and

Christian got the eczema. It’s all in the genes!

Kori,

I always seem to get eczema more in the winter. But when it peels,

the skin underneath isn't really sensitive. If it was eczema I don't

think your 4 yr. old would be so easy about it. Eczema itches enough

to drive you off your rocker!!! Kids can also get it on their cheeks

(both top & bottom!!!)

Apparently we're related, because me & my 2 oldest kids have the

same nails as you guys--peeling in layers & hangnails hehehe...
