Adele,

If you go to the " files " section on this group's website and click on

the folder called " grace's photos " , you can see pictures of Grace's

foot. I would suggest that you take pictures of Connie's foot from

different angles (preferably with her standing) and send them to an

experienced doctor for review. I am assuming that you're in the UK,

I would suggest contacting Dr. Naomie , Dr. Gavin DeKiewiet

(sp), or Dr. Short off of Dr. Ponseti's list just for

example. Those 3 doctors have the most Ponseti experience in the

UK.

Rockerbottom is a breakdown of the mid-foot... in a simplistic

explanation: the bones of the foot, viewed from the side, would be in

an elongated " u " shape, like a rocker on a chair. You can read lots

of posts about this topic by typing " rockerbottom " into the search

archived messages box and click " next " to scroll through the old

posts section by section looking for threads on this topic. It's

definitely worth your time to seek out a second opinion as it seems

like your " mommy instincts " are telling you that something isn't

quite right. You can also look through the photos and files sections

here to see lots of pictures of different baby feet to see if your

daughter's foot looks similar/different to the others. There are

also a bunch of personal websites that can be accessed through the

links section, or if you go here:

http://pages.ivillage.com/ponseti_links and go to the personal

websites section. I think looking at lots of pictures is the best

way to compare since there isn't really a " standard " way that a

clubfoot will look after it's corrected.

Hope this helps!

Hi Adele

Are you in the UK? I am too - in Woldingham in Surrey. We are seeing

Naomi for our son's clubfeet after he was treated elsewhere

without success. Let me know if you need any more info about Naomi -

phone numbers etc. she is absolutely brilliant.

Hi Adele

Yes, Naomi is in Booth Hall. We were being treated at a local

hospital by a consultant who said he was following the Ponseti

method -he appeared very knowledgeable and at first we were

confident he knew what he was doing. After a couple of casts we

started to worry though because the casts were not looking like the

pictures we had seen on the internet and reading Ponseti

publications. We spoke to our consultant about this and he was quite

arrogant and told us to trust him. Thankfully we went with our

instincts and emailed Dr Ponseti with photos. When he replied he

said that our son had atypical clubfeet and strongly advised

to ask Naomi to treat . Thank God he did! had been

through 1 tenotomy but his feet were nowhere near corrected. We more

or less had to start from scratch, and 's now in the mitchell

sandals. We have had at least 1 500mile round trip each week to

Manchester for plaster cast changes since then (except for a break

when he had his 2nd tenotomy), but it has been absolutely worth it.

With regards to referrals, we do have private healthcare for

but have not invoked it. I just went to my GP armed with the email

from Dr Ponseti and told him I needed an immediate referral. to be

honest I think I knew much more about clubfeet treatment than he

did, so he was not really able to question what I needed. He was

very kind- he knew that if we needed to travel to America we would

have. He gave us an NHS referral no problem. I didn't actually think

to say to him that I could go private if necessary.

Anyway, when we got to Manchester, Naomi was extremely pleased that

we had got an NHS referral - she said we had set a precedent and

that this would help other parents who wanted to be referred to her.

(ie if one PCT can do it, why can't another?). I have heard stories

of parents who have tried to get referrals and their doctor/pct have

said no. I think you need to be strong and insist. (It's all to do

with cross charging I think). Apparently we do have the right to

decide where we want treatment.

I cannot recommend Naomi Davies too strongly. She is amazing and

cares so much about her Ponseti children. If you can, it might be

worth trying to see her, just to put your mind at rest if nothing

else. you can phone 0 and ask to be put through to her

secretary for an appointment.(although they will insist on a

referral, nhs or private) She has a Ponseti clinic on Wednesday

afternoon's - It's always great to see other children at various

stages of treatment at htis clinic - helps to believe that there is

light at the end of what seems like a never ending tunnel at times!

hope this helps
